Trivia / Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! meets Courage the Cowardly Dog

Go To

  • B-Team Sequel: John R. Dilworth, the creator of Courage, was not involved in this film. This is rather surprising considering he directed nearly every episode of the original series.
  • Content Leak:
    • On December 15th, 2019, the Turner Classic Movies website listed this film among the upcoming Scooby-Doo releases, slated for 2021. A few days later, the listing was pulled.
    • On June 11th, 2021, veteran background artist Rick Evans posted samples of background art connected to the film. This included blatant signage of Nowhere on a sunset meadow.
    • On June 20th, 2021, the cover for the film leaked on a Finnish website. This preceded the eventual official trailer by two days.
  • He Also Did:
  • Meaningful Release Date: The film's release was in 2021, a year which had the return of cicadas in North America after 17 years.
  • The Original Darrin: The Italian dub has Mino Caprio returning as Eustace, after being replaced with Luigi Ferraro in the last season of the original series.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Necessary with Eustace, as his original voice actors, Lionel Wilson and Arthur Anderson, had both passed away by the time this film was made. Not to mention Wallace Shawn voiced him on The Fog of Courage two years before Anderson's death. In this film, he's voiced by Jeff Bergman, which is actually technically a Role Reprise. He had voiced him earlier in a Cartoon Network crossover bumper.
    • Jeff Bergman also replaces Paul Schoeffler and Simon Prebble as the Computer.
    • Jeff Bennett replaces Ron McLarty as the General due to his passing on February 2020.
    • The same goes in the Latin American Spanish dub, through only with Muriel, as her original voice actress, Angeles Bravo, also died as well, and she was replaced by Rocío Garcel for this movie.
    • The entire French cast was replaced. While Eric Missoffe is the current voice of Shaggy and Scooby, he did not reprise Courage, and he was replaced by Guillaume Lebon. Eustace, Muriel, Katz, and Le Quack's voice actors had also died years ago.
    • In the Italian dub Graziella Polesinanti voices Muriel, since her original voice actress Paila Pavese retired a long time ago.
    • In the Brazilian dub, Hélio Ribeiro voices Eustace due to his original voice actor Domício Costa passing away in 2016, Myriam Thereza voices Muriel, replacing Beatriz Loureironote , João Cappelli replaces José Luiz Barbeito, who passed away in 2018, as the voice of the Nowhere Newsman, and Hércules Franco replaces Dário de Castro, who passed away in 2021, as the voice of Katz. Also Guilherme Briggs is set to permanently replace Reginaldo Primo as the voice of Scooby-Doo starting with this movie, after briefly voicing the character in SCOOB!.
  • Posthumous Credit: The film was released over a month after the passing of Thea White, who returned to voice Muriel.
  • Recycled Script: Scooby and the gang previously encountered a giant cicada swarm monster in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.
  • Role Reprise:
    • Thea White returns to the role of Muriel Bagge, which she reprised seven years ago in the 2014 short, The Fog of Courage. This would also be the final time, as she passed away over a month before the film's release.
    • Marty Grabstein returns as Courage himself, also after a seven-year gap.
    • The same goes in the Latin American Spanish dub, as Ricardo Mendoza reprises his role as Courage, and Herman López reprises his role as Eustace as well.
    • In Brazilian dub, José Leonardo reprises his role as Courage, alongside Ricardo Juarez as the Computer and Eduardo Dascar as Le Quack.
    • Paul Schoeffler also returned as Katz and Le Quack, as well as the Nowhere Newscaster.
    • Chuck Montgomery reprises the role of the Lieutenant.
    • In the Italian dub, Oreste Baldini and Mino Caprio reprise their roles as Courage and Eustace.
  • Sequel Gap: This is the first animated Courage project since 2014's The Fog of Courage short, released seven years prior.
  • Swan Song: This is Thea White's last film before her death a month before the film's release.
  • Wordof God: Many sources have stated that John R. Dilworth was not only against the crossover idea in the first place since he wasn't particularly fond of Scooby Doo himself, but that Warner Bros. approached him to direct when the story and production was already mid-locked. He immediately declined but gave the WB team a style guide book of the series to use as reference for the Courage character designs.
