  • Technology Marches On: One plot twist hinges on the small plastic canisters that hold film from cameras, and at one point Dresden finds one with a completed roll of film in it ready to be taken to a kiosk for development. Digital photography largely superseded film photography in the years following this book's release. Justified if the one who recruited the photographer knew that the black magic rituals they'd been tasked to record on the sly might short out a digital camera, and therefore specifically requested old-school film be used instead.
  • Working Title: Word of God is that the first book's title was originally to be Semiautomagic, in order to invoke a mix of Hardboiled Detective and Urban Fantasy, but he was talked out of it by the publisher.
