Trivia / Spirited (2022)

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Marlow Barkley played Briggs' niece Wren, as well as the younger version of her mother Carrie.
  • Cut Song: At one point, Present launches into a song, "Ripple", in an effort to convince Marley to let him haunt Briggs, with Marley cutting him off to let him do the haunt if he skips the song. The song, which has a reprise during the curtain call, is played in full, complete with choreography during the end credits, being labeled as a cut song in the credits and on the soundtrack.
  • Fake Brit: Present — played by the American Will Ferrell — is revealed to have been in life the British Ebenezer Scrooge.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Parodied in the marketing with a teaser trailer where Ferrell and Reynolds make it clear that their singing is not dubbed over... while they themselves are dubbed over by Milli Vanilli. Of course, this is averted in the film itself.
  • Orphaned Reference: A musical example. "Ripple" may be a Cut Song, but much like an actual ripple, its effect spread far. Multiple other songs in the musical reference it:
    • In "Unredeemable", the ghostly chorus' lines — "You have to believe inside the worst of us/There is some decency somewhere/You know that you can achieve something miraculous/If you'd only care" and "Can we redeem the unredeemable?"— are based on some of the lyrics that Present sung in "Ripple". Because the latter song is cut, the lyrics lose their original significance: The ghosts are repeating Present's own words. He changed their minds about Clint, and now they're using the same words to change his mind about himself.
    • "Do a Little Good" has a moment where the ensemble sings the "Ripple, ripple, ripple" motif. This motif can be heard during the short song-and-dance number that ends the montage of preparation for Clint's haunting, but it's brief enough to escape the notice of some viewers.
  • Production Posse: The film reunites Will Ferrell with his Daddy's Home director Sean Anders. Anders also reunited with his writing partner on Daddy's Home and We're the Millers, John Morris.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: The full version of "Ripple" was filmed but ultimately cut for time, which caused the hilarious scene in which Present starts to sing it and Marley immediately promises that he can haunt Clint if he promises not to sing again. The full scene plays during the credits.
