Trivia / Soulcalibur V

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Cassandra's Soul Chronicle in VI positions the game as a Bad Future that needs to be avoided, making Project Soul's thoughts on this game pretty clear.
  • Creator Killer: This would be Daishi Odashima's only work on the series before the game's reception lead him to leave and try his luck with Sega.
  • Dummied Out: Daishi Odashima, the game's director, reported that SCV's Story Mode was supposed to be 4 times bigger than that of the released product, and each character would've had their own chronicle instead of just focusing on Patroklos and Pyrrha; time constraints and lack of staff caused his plans to go up in flames.. They even had fully voiced lines ready for the extensive Story Mode that, in the end, weren't used. VI ended up fulfilling Odashima's plans for a much larger story mode, but under different direction.
  • Franchise Killer: The negative reception to the game over its flaws (removing fan favourites and replacing them with less-popular ones, a half-baked story mode that had 3/4's of its story removed, and Patroklos'... everything) ended up putting the series on ice for several years with only lackluster spin-offs to compliment it up until October 2018, when Soulcalibur VI was released. Fortunately, that installment was such a success to Bandai Namco that it revived the franchise that this game nearly destroyed.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The game was pulled from PS3 and Xbox 360 digital storefronts on June 19, 2023.
  • Stillborn Franchise: V was going to be a new story altogether, which would've continued all the way up to Soulcalibur IX.note  Sadly, it never happened due to the negative fan reaction, with VI being a Continuity Reboot instead.
  • Troubled Production: As explained by Matt McMuscles in this video, the game was made in barely a year, as much of Bandai Namco's team was focused on Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
