Trivia / Slipstream (1989)

Go To

  • Creator Killer: The film was the brainchild of producer Gary Kurtz, who had previously been a producer on Star Wars and American Graffiti. Its failure drove him into bankruptcy. It would also end the career of director Steven Lisberger (of TRON fame), and was an inauspicious return to movie roles for Mark Hamill, who had spent the last several years mostly doing theater and Broadway roles in an attempt to shake his association with Luke Skywalker; he'd shuffle along in B-movies and small parts and eventually gain newfound fame as a voiceover actor, but he wouldn't headline another movie until The Force Awakens.
  • Playing Against Type: This was Mark Hamill's first theatrical movie since Return of the Jedi, and he chose to play the villain because he was worried about being typecast.
  • Short Run in Peru: The movie was never given a theatrical release in North America. Those countries it did show in (Australia and the UK), it flopped. It's now on the public domain so anyone can see it online but this also means it's hard to find a good quality copy to show the Scenery Porn to good effect.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Perseverance Records issued a limited edition album of Elmer Bernstein's large-scale score, but because of legal difficulties with the production company, the album had to be withdrawn from sale.
