Trivia / Skammen

  • Creator Backlash: While considered to belong among Ingmar Bergman's great movies, he wasn't all that satisfied with it, believing that it had a weak first half.
  • Enforced Method Acting: Bergman filmed the scenes in the boat in the Baltic Sea (the sea surrounding Faro Island, where the movie was filmed), instead of in the studio, in bitterly cold weather, so the tired expression on Liv Ullmann's face is real.
  • Throw It In!: Although Bergman rarely allowed improvisation in his movies, he did let Ullmann and Max von Sydow improvise the scene where the two characters are eating lunch at a picnic table.
  • Working Title: Kriget (The War) and Skammens Drömmar (Dreams of Shame).
