Trivia / Shadowrun Storytime

  • Actor Leaves, Character Dies: More or less the reason Tank was killed off — the GM had planned the Two-Times Arc as a year-long experience spanning several continents, so when Tank's (formerly Trout's) player got forcibly pulled out of the game by his father to spend more time with his family, the GM decided to kill him off rather than play him for the full length of it.
  • Approval of God: TwoDee and Dervish's player found the in-thread parody stories involving Dervish's AMERIKA-SAN persona utterly hilarious, and expressed their approval toward several bits of fanart depicting the team.
  • Creator Backlash: A very downplayed example, but Trout's player came to regret some of the mistakes and choices he made when creating his first character. While he did repeat a few (like blowing karma on a glorified makeover for a combat-focused character) and add some questionable negative qualities to Tank, he did avoid making him Trout-tier unplayable.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: Geppetto's player (described by TwoDee as "a really chill Christian dude") more or less created him as an experiment to see how well he could play a character he found reprehensible, and did quite bloody well at it.
TwoDee: Geppetto was basically an exploration for him; he wanted to create a character that he himself would actively find reprehensible, as a thought experiment, and succeeded greatly. When he was playing Geppetto he had kind of this on/off switch thing going. When he got into character, he REALLY got into character.
  • Word of God:
    • Geppetto's player stated that his character would've voted to not even try and learn what was on the cyberdisc they recovered during the Jetblack run, had he not been critically injured and undergoing life-saving surgery.
    • WildCat (canonically the Sioux Nation's special forces) was reduced to an ignominious PMC barely above HardCorps in terms of competence due to the GM taking exception to their perceived status as a massive Creator's Pet in canon.
    • Dervish's armour featured attached thrusters and hydraulic jumps as an in-story explanation for how he was able to use his skimmer-leg implants while in milispec armour, despite the whole suit (plus Dervish) weighing nearly a full tonne.
  • Write What You Know: 2D and many of his contacts were based on 4chan boards; the hacking group he belongs to (Chaos Engine) was fluffed as a more murderous version of /b/, while early contact v1ct1m was referred to as a "/d/eviant gone wrong."
TwoDee: 2D is basically a composite image of my impression of what /b/tards are like. He's completely out-of-shape, a gigantic douche, as petty as a friendzoned fourteen-year-old, a little bit racist and sexist (but less than he pretends he is), and not nearly as badass as he thinks he is, but can kick legitimate butt in a pinch.
