- What Could Have Been:
- In the original series outline, the working title was The Song of Changes. In 2018, Brandon said that the book would probably be titled The Rhythm of War. Eventually the “The” was dropped and Rhythm of War was announced as the official title in February 2020.
- The original plan for this book was to just have Eshonai flashbacks, so we could really explore the Parshendi, but since that had already been done somewhat in previous books (and Eshonai was also dead), Venli was considered instead. In the final product, they both have flashbacks.
- Rayse-Odium was always planned to be the main villain of the series but Brandon felt he had underwent too much Villain Decay by the fourth book to remain a credible threat, which is why Taravangian kills and replaces him as the new Odium instead, and possibly why Cultivation was keen to emphasise the threat of the Odium Shard over the one who wielded it.
