• Recycled Script: The operation scene was taken from the unproduced movie (the difference being that there, it was Captain Hollister they were operating on).
• Shrug of God: Doug Naylor gave this response when fans pointed out that Rimmer's parents were said to be Seventh Day Advent Hoppists back in "The Last Day", but are established as being members of the Church of Judas in this episode. For his part, script editor Andrew Ellard suggested that since Rimmer's father was extremely neurotic and hungry for success, odds are he had the family change their religion any time they had a bit of bad luck — and Rimmer's mother would likely have been only too happy to go along with it, since it would give her an entirely new congregation to copulate with.
