Trivia / Primal (2019)

Go To

  • Acting for Two: The Viking Chieftain and his son Eldar are both voiced by Fred Tatasciore, and almost never appear in a scene without each other.
  • Adored by the Network: Seems to be heading in this direction as of the second season, with Adult Swim airing multiple marathons and back-to-back episodes of it even outside of Toonami. Reruns have even continued after the second season ended, which is very rare for a Toonami series.
  • I Am Not Shazam: "Eldar" was originally assumed to be the Chieftain's name due to the credits referring to his VA as "Chieftain/Eldar", but is revealed in the subsequent episode to actually be the name of his eldest child.
  • Out of Order: "Plague of Madness", chronologically the 7th episode, first aired on the 1st of April 2020, whereas "Scent of Prey", chronologically the 6th, first aired on the 6th of October the same year.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Genndy Tartakovsky's original pitch for the show was a more child-friendly series about a caveboy and his dinosaur friend going on various adventures. However, after dabbling in more explicit violence with the final season of Samurai Jack, he decided to do another animated action series for adults and retooled it into the complete opposite of his original idea.
    • The Raptors in "Terror Under the Blood Moon" were originally going to be feathered but were made scaly due to animation complications.
    • Storyboards show the Night Feeder was originally a burlier ape-like beast instead of the slender theropod it was in the finalized product.
    • Season 2's original plan was to follow an arc which had been cut from Season 1. As they began developing the second season, it became clear that the story was more reliant on breaking the world for the sake of cliches. While few details exist, we know Mira was originally meant to have been taken by Egyptians, the classic ancient fantasy/sci-fi culture. In order to keep the spirit of the world and remain original, this was shifted to Viking slavers (who are usually portrayed in a more noble light in speculative fiction) and led to inclusion of more obscure cultural influences in the second half of the season.
