- Approval of God: Original actors Austin St. John, Amy Jo Johnson, and Walter Emanuel Jones enjoyed the film. Jones said that he was excited to see other interpretations of the original source material, while Johnson called it "kind of awesome. BUT don’t tell Saban that!!" Steve Cardenas, St. John's replacement, also liked it, even joking about Rocky's Adaptational Villainy.
- Cast the Expert: Divatox and Scorpina are played by the porn stars Bree Olsen and Amia Miley, which is fitting since their only screen time shows them having sex.
- Disowned Adaptation: Saban themselves disliked the film and went to the rare effort of taking it down. Jason David Frank wasn't fond of it either for the language and violence. David Fielding, Zordon, has taken something of a neutral stance, complimenting its production values but otherwise saying that it didn't evoke the good feels of the source material.
- Fanwork Ban: The movie was hit with copyright infringement from Saban Brands. While they are usually passive about such works the higher quality production using name actors was seen as compromising the brand image, especially when they were working on an adaptation of their own note
- Reality Subtext: The short takes inspiration from real life events concerning the cast members, in particular David Yost (Billy is gay in this version) and Thuy Trang (Trini is shown to have been the first Ranger to die much like how Trang was the first main cast member of the franchise to pass away).
- Role Reprise: Carla Perez reprised her role from American footage as Rita Repulsa.
