* DolledUpInstallment: A weird example due to the above. ''Battlegrounds Mobile India'' and ''Peacekeeper Elite'' (formerly ''Game For Peace'') are technically PUBG Mobile, but for the former, the servers are limited to India and released without the PUBG brand to dissociate the publishers from Level Infinite/Tencent, and the latter is a less violent version with endorsement from the Chinese military.

* NoExportForYou: In China, Tencent commissioned two {{Reformulated Game}}s based on PUBG. The "Exhilarating Battlefield" one is faithful to the source material, and being published worldwide as Playerunknown's Battlegrounds Mobile. The other one, "Army Attack" adds more vehicles and game modes, yet it didn't leave China as of now.

** PUBG's growth and popularity spurned [[FromClonesToGenre the introduction of battle royale modes in other games]], first it was mobile games, and then, most controversially, ''VideoGame/{{Fortnite}}'', which Blue Hole had considered taking legal action against. However, the latter being a free game and having less issues than the former granted ''Fortnite'' an advantage, and is, by February 2018, the more-played game out of the two. There's even a battle royale version of ''VideoGame/{{Tetris}}'' of all things, ''Tetris 99''.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The [[https://fix.pubg.com/ "Fix PUBG" campaign]] by the developers, which acknowledged all the issues people had with the game and made it their goal to fix them from August to October 2018. This includes but is not limited to frame drops, cheating, desync, and a bunch of quality-of-life bugs.

* BTeamSequel: Inverted with ''New State Mobile'', as it is made in-house by Krafton's developers instead of the (currently four-year run) PUBG Mobile being licensed out to Tencent Games.

** For the mobile, there were almost half-dozen play-alikes, until it's pared down to ''Videogame/GarenaFreeFire'' (a more lightweight Battle Royale game by Garena with half the number of players in normal gameplay modes, initially released as a direct response to the explosive popularity of PUBG at its 2017 launch), ''PUBG Mobile'' (which managed to do the 100-player Battle Royale in mobile but also have gameplay modes for 50 players as well), and PUBG's sister game ''New State Mobile'' (formerly PUBG New State, intended as a BTeamSequel made by internal developers of Krafton itself instead of Tencent Games' Lightspeed and Quantum)

* FanNickname:
** Several variations of the the game's acronym: "'''Pub-Gee'''", "'''Pub-Guh'''", "'''[=PUGB=]'''" (yep, pronounced [pug-bee]), "'''Plunkbat'''" or simply "'''Battlegrounds'''". Also often referred to as "''Literature/BattleRoyale: The Game''", "''Battleunknown's Playergrounds''", "''Unknown Player's Grounds of Battle''", "''Brendan Greene's Murder Island''", etc.
** Scattered all across the map are small storage huts, while only containing a drop or two, they are often used as cover for people either caught out in a wide field, or very infrequently, a camping spot for ambushes. Due to the callouts of several popular streamers, those huts are often referred to many players as "FUCCBOI Sheds" or other variations of "Camper Sheds".
** The frying pan is commonly called "butt-pan" because it drapes over the player's lower back and provides a little protection against back attacks; in fact, players value it for its defensive capabilities far more than its intended use as a melee weapon. Another common name for it is "Level 4 Armor".
** Campers who scope out the bridges, especially the two leading from the southern island of Erangel, are referred to commonly as "Bridge Trolls."
** Due to the vaguely-Hispanic feel of Miramar, the wall bordering the north side of the map has been cheekily named [[UsefulNotes/DonaldTrump "Trump's Wall"]].
** Similar to the FUCCBOI Sheds mentioned above, Erangel also has a large amount of small, two-story structures nicknamed "Wizard Towers". Much like the sheds, these are usually used for camping, and the fact that it has a large view on the second floor makes it a haven for snipers.

** The mobile version has been banned in Nepal, parts of India, Iraq, Jordan, and Bhutan, apparently for being too violent and addictive. However, these bans were lifted and appealed in both India and Nepal. It was again banned in India due to the June 2020 Ladakh border conflict with China and fears over its connection to Tencent. The PC and console versions are still available, though, since only the mobile version was developed by Creator/TencentGames. Despite this, many Indian players use VPN to bypass the ban due to the game's [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff popularity there]].
