Trivia / Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

  • Acclaimed Flop: Deadfire received lots of praise and high scores from critics (it was PC Gamer's Best RPG of 2018, won Unity's 2018 Best Console/Desktop Game and Golden Cube award, and was nominated for the 2019 WGA Awards' Best Screenplay). However, in September of 2018, five months after the game's release, sales were assumed (based on returns to investors for the Fig campaign) to only be somewhere in the ballpark of 110,000 copies — Obsidian needed to sell at least 580,000 copies at $50 to break even. According to Josh Sawyer, the game would eventually break even, despite rather disappointing initial sales. It's generally assumed that this played a major part in the company's acquisition by Microsoft in November 2018.
  • Acting for Two:
    • Matthew Mercer reprises his roles as party members Edér and Aloth, who share a good deal of banter over the course of the game.
    • Taliesin Jaffe plays Eothas, god of light reborn, and, in Beast of Winter, the farmer Waidwen, his mortal vessel.
