Trivia / Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon: The Definitive Edition added a turn-based mode after a fan-made Game Mod to that effect proved quite popular.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: The reason the Darven quest ended up being so off compared to pretty much all the other quests in the game is the result of this. The character in question was included because someone donated an insanely large amount of money to the game's Kickstarter, allowing them to create a character for the game. Due to this, they didn't want to change the character out of respect for the donation, leaving Darven to end up sticking out the way he did.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: As a result of the terms of the publishing deal with Deep Silver (now owned by Embracer Group), Owlcat Games, the developer of Kingmaker, lost the rights to the game proper not long after publication, which also meant that Deep Silver was not contractually obligated to share revenue from the game with Owlcat after 2019 or so. While they continued to help support the game after the DLC came out, part of the reason Wrath of the Righteous came about was to have a PF title that the studio wholly owned and saw a piece of every sale on perpetually. As a result, Owlcat support for Kingmaker has effectively ceased (since any work on the title is literally a money-losing proposition and would have to be approved by hostile external management); the last patch came in 2021, and while some bugs do remain and are known, they will remain unaddressed.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, there was a monk companion named Sakken planned, but he ended up being cut early on in development. This actually leaves a fairly prominent hole in the non-mercenary companion lineup, since without Sakken, Valerie is the only companion set up from the outset to be a tank.
    • A poll was held to see which new race would be added to the game. There were 3 contenders: the Aasimar, the Dhampir and the Elementals (which included the Sylphs, the Undines, the Ifrits and the Oreads). The Aasimar won by a very narrow margin and was added to the game. The Elementals came second while the Dhampir weren't even close to the top. Dhampir and Oreads would make it into Wrath of the Righteous, instead (with Oreads being a met stretch goal and Owlcat invoking a bit of "creator's prerogative" in making Dhampirs part of the base package).
    • Hellknight was a Prestige Class considered to be added to the game, but budget constraint and time prevented its inclusion as a playable class. As many weary players will tell you, Hellknights are still... in the game, to be sure. Both Hellknights and Signifiers made it into the sequel.
  • Word of Gay: Linzi has a fair amount of Homoerotic Subtext with female NPCs, specifically Valerie, Octavia, and Annamede Belavarah. Her writer confirmed in a Q&A session that she was intentionally written as a lesbian.
