Trivia / One Night Stand (1997)

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $24 million. Box office, $2,618,335.
  • Creator Killer: The movie put a screeching halt on the wave Mike Figgis was riding after Leaving Las Vegas, and while he would later have some modest success with Timecode, note  none of his other movies managed to be well-received.
  • Executive Meddling: The first draft of the screenplay was written by Joe Eszterhas, but his name was removed from the project after Figgis rewrote it extensively. Eszterhas said that years later a studio executive told him that the studio allowed Figgis to alter the script because the director had just scored a major success with his film Leaving Las Vegas, while Eszterhas' Showgirls had flopped at the box office. Considering how this film fared, fate loves irony it seems.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Adrian Lyne was offered to direct the film, but turned it down in order to helm the remake of Lolita.
    • Nicolas Cage was offered the lead role, but turned it down, as he'd just got married and wasn't interested in a film about adultery.
    • Max's role was written for a white male. To avoid certain implications of a black man leaving his black wife for a white woman, Max's wife Mimi was changed to an Asian American, played by Ming-Na Wen.
