Trivia / Ollie's Pack

Go To

  • The Danza: David Berni voices Bernie.
  • Dawson Casting: All the kids are voiced by actors at least in their 20s.
  • Development Gag: Captain Wowski's pilot incarnation, Captain Whiskers, can be seen in the Monsterverse when Ollie an his friends visit it in the Grand Finale.
  • Distanced from Current Events: The episode “Sick Day” was produced alongside “Getting Oldie with It” as the show’s fourth episode, but due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, it was delayed for nearly a whole year to be aired as one of the show’s last episodes, while “Getting Oldie with It” was instead shown alongside the Halloween Episode “Lil’ Baby Ollie”.
  • Invisible Advertising: In the United States, the show only started getting advertising on Nickelodeon a mere month before its release.
  • Out of Order:
    • Most of the episodes have been broadcasted this way. To give some examples, Nickelodeon's premiere episode "The Chosen One... Stinks / Not Another Superhero Movie" is actually the third episode produced, while the second produced episode "Major Snooch / We're with the Band" was aired as the fifth episode.
    • The show's Halloween Episode "Lil' Baby Ollie / Nightmare Frightscare!" presents an unusual case. Produced as the 12th episode, Nickelodeon for some reason chose to air "Lil' Baby Ollie" in May 2020, pairing it alongside the episode "Getting Oldie with It" (the 4th episode produced; its proper accompanying episode "Sick Day" debuted in May 2021) while saving "Nightmare Frightscare!" for October 2020 where it was aired as the 21st episode without any accompanying episode.
  • Production Posse: Several voice actors for the show had also appeared on Pedro Eboli's previous show Cupcake & Dino: General Services. Mark Little and Kayla Lorette, the voices of bounty hunters Andre and Bev, were Dino and Officer Bee in that show, while David Berni (Bernie), James Hartnett (Ollie himself), and Naomi Snieckus (Ollie's mom) had provided additional voices in Cupcake & Dino. Additionally, Kyle Dooley, the voice of Uncle Chance in Cupcake & Dino, was one of the writers on Ollie's Pack.
  • Screwed by the Network: While the series got a decent start with new episodes airing on weekday afternoons at 4:00pm for a few months, reruns were sparse, only airing when there was a week of new episodes. After airing most of the series in a bomb format throughout the summer months, Nick eventually started to give up on it. The show had a Halloween episode air on a Saturday afternoon in October and a planned week of premieres in December was pulled halfway through due to abysmal ratings. In May 2021, the show eventually got shafted to Nicktoons to air its final episodes. The kicker? They all aired at 3:30am, when no kids are watching, and was placed in the middle of their all night SpongeBob SquarePants marathons.
  • Short Run in Peru: The series aired in the United States several months before it came to Canada, despite being produced by the latter country.
  • Studio To The Rescue: The pilot (by the name of Monster Pack in 2013) was part of the Nickelodeon Animated Shorts Program, but turned down by Nickelodeon. However, it was then picked by Nelvana for a full series a few years later.
  • What Could Have Been: The original Monster Pack pilot shows some very drastic differences from the final product. While the most notable difference is probably the artstyle, there are also some significant changes in the characters.
    • Ollie and Bernie are instead called Morty and Howard respectively, with the latter being a much more neurotic and paranoid character compared to the timid but easygoing personality of the final product. They also had completely different voice actors, due to the short being rather voiced over in the United States than Canada. Cleo is completely absent, suggesting she was probably added to the series later in the development process.
    • Captain Wowski is the most radically changed character. In the pilot, he's instead called Captain Whiskers, and rather than a mentor figure for Ollie who gave him the pack to protect it, he's just another monster from the bag (with "Howard" mentioning that the Monster Pack was given to them by a "magical hobo wizard"). Also, his design was much simpler, being simply a big round feline head on tentacled legs.
    • The creators have stated that the series was originally meant to be much more story/lore-driven, but Executive Meddling asked them to keep things more episodic. However, nuggets of the original plans still manage to shine through with episodes like "Sorry to Father You" and "History of Portshill", as well as the Grand Finale, although they are certainly downplayed as background elements of the show rather than the main focus. However, the Cliffhanger of the final episode and The Reveal Ollie's father is still alive suggests Season 2 would have dived more into this had it come to be.
  • Written by Cast Member: James Hartnett, the voice of Ollie, wrote the episode "Big Bern".
