Trivia / 1963

Go To

  • Creative Differences: It appears that the main reason the comic was never finished or collected is because Alan Moore and Steve Bissette had a massive falling out some time after the last issue was published. Don Simpson’s Spiritual Successor in 2023 was in large part a scathing hit piece on Moore for “abandoning” his collaborators.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: To date, the series has never been reprinted or collected in any form.
  • Spiritual Successor: Don Simpson put out his own “1963 Annual” through Fantagraphics in 2023 with Serial Numbers Filed Off versions of the Cast of Expies. It’s mostly an extended Take That! at Alan Moore for abandoning the project before the plot could be resolved — the title page says “Fuck Al!” right at the top and it goes from there.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • 1963 Annual and 1963 #½ were announced but never published.
    • Steve Bissette and Rick Veitch tried to put out a hardcover collection of the miniseries through Dynamite Comics back in 2009, but it ended up not happening for undisclosed reasons.
    • In 2010, Steve Bissette announced that he was making a comic featuring the 1963 characters that he owned the rights to, but nothing ever came of it.
    • Don Simpson's X-Amount of Comics: 1963 (When Else?) Annual featured a character called Hell-Diver seemingly intended as the setting's equivalent to Daredevil. It's effectively stated outright that she was part of a second wave of stories that obviously never came to fruition.
