Trivia / Mythic Quest

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Craig Mazin has a recurring role as Lou, one of the Mythic Quest testers, but also plays a different character, Sol Green, in the flashback episode "Backstory!".
  • Actor Leaves, Character Dies: Ahead of the third season, it was announced that F. Murray Abraham would not be returning as C.W. as he was filming The White Lotus abroad. In the third season premiere, C.W. posthumously informs the characters that he had driven a car off the Grand Canyon Thelma And Louise-style and had arranged for his remains to be placed in a satellite that the characters could watch. It was later revealed that Abraham was let go from the show after sexual misconduct allegations.
  • Actor-Shared Background:
    • Brad shares his actor Danny Pudi's Indian and Polish heritage.
    • Poppy is the daughter of an Australian mother and a Filipino father, just like her actress Charlotte Nicdao.
    • Rachel is half-Thai, just like her actress Ashly Burch.
  • Approval of God: F. Murray Abraham praised Josh Brener's portrayal of a younger CW in "Backstory", saying he learned new things about the character he originated through Brener's performance.
  • Billing Displacement: Despite Poppy being essentially the co-lead along with Ian, Charlotte Nicdao is billed sixth in the credits. This is because other than Rob McElhenney (who gets top billing) and F. Murray Abraham (who gets the And Starring credit) the cast is listed in alphabetical order. She is billed second in the credits starting from Season 3.
  • The Danza: David Brittlesbee shares the same first name as his actor, David Hornsby.
  • Defictionalization:
    • After the episode "A Dark, Quiet Death" aired, a website with a fake demo of the eponymous game was created.
    • In June of 2021, Lions Gate released an e-book of a "never-before-published draft" of C.W.'s Nebula Award-winning novella, "Tears of the Anaren", with added notes by C.W. and Ian, to tie in with C.W.'s Origins Episode "Backstory!".
  • Directed by Cast Member: Rob McElhenney, Danny Pudi, David Hornsby, and Ashly Burch have directed episodes.
  • Friendship on the Set: Charlotte Nicdao, Ashly Burch, Imani Hakim, and Jessie Ennis became very close friends quickly while filming the first season. A lot of their interactions on the companion podcast, "Questie Besties," is them effusively praising each other, which is apparently true to their interactions in real life as well.
  • Harpo Does Something Funny: In "The Convention," Imani Hakim and Ashly Burch were prompted to just talk about pretzels, and so the conversation that happened about pretzels in the episode was completely improvised by them.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor:
    • Brad is an unapologetic Jerkass, but Danny Pudi has been described as “the nicest man in the world” by costar Ashly Burch.
    • Poppy is an asshole to most people, but on the podcast "Questie Besties," David Hornsby notes that Charlotte Nicdao is incredibly sweet, which makes her playing someone so dickish even funnier.
    • Jo is Ax-Crazy and a psychopath, but Jessie Ennis is very sweet and friendly.
  • Playing with Character Type: Parvesh Cheena, best known for friendly enthusiastic characters, as Brad's affable brother. Brad spends the episode insisting he is an even more cutthroat money guy means the viewer has to decide if they believe Brad is telling the truth or not. By the end of the episode viewers know that he is.
  • Throw It In!: Very frequently on the show, lines are added in by actors and by the co-creators while the episodes are filming.
    • Charlotte Nicdao came up with the Dinner Party hands that Poppy uses throughout the second episode and onward.
    • Co-creator Megan Ganz came up with the lines where Poppy calls David a "soy boy beta cuck," and the line where Poppy insults David by saying, ""You know who didn't have trouble finding a man? Your ex-wife," while they were shooting the episode.
    • Jessie Ennis came up with the story where Jo insulted a girl who wanted to play Barbies with her by saying playing Barbies is for babies, and then spread a rumor that that girl queefs, loosely based on a real life incident that happened to her when she was in school.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Dana was almost played by Charlotte Nicdao, before she ended up being cast as Poppy instead.
    • Poppy Li was originally named Poppy Legare.
    • Brad was originally supposed to be a woman named Bridget.
    • Caitlin McGee originally auditioned for Poppy and then for Brad (who at the time was named Bridget) before landing the part of Sue Gorgon.
    • Dana was originally supposed to have a boyfriend, to add another obstacle to her and Rachel getting together, and also to make Rachel question even more if Dana is into women.
    • Jo was not originally a character in the show. Her part was written for Jessie Ennis when Megan Ganz and Rob McElhenney met her and decided they really liked her attitude and energy.
  • Written by Cast Member: Rob McElhenney, David Hornsby, Aparna Nancherla, Ashly Burch, Craig Mazin, Humphrey Ker, and Naomi Ekperigin have written episodes.
