  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $25 million. Box office, $14,502,483 (domestic), $51,702,483 (worldwide). It debuted at the number one spot, but faltered afterwards.
  • California Doubling:
    • The majority of the "New York" scenes were filmed in Toronto.
    • The subway scene was actually shot in both NYC and Philadelphia. The foot chase on the street and subway stairs was filmed in the real Brighton Beach Station in Brooklyn, NY. However, the platform scenes were filmed at Philadelphia's Berks Market-Frankford Station with Market-Frankford Subway Cars dressed up in "Q Train" stickers to represent the NYC Subway. When Van Damme falls between the tracks, he's back at the actual Brighton Beach Station again.
  • Direct to Video: After a string of successful theatrical action movies in the early nineties, this was one of the first movies starring Jean-Claude Van Damme to skip theaters and be released direct-to-video in many countries.
  • Fake Nationality: Jean-Claude Van Damme (Belgian) as a Frenchman, Natasha Henstridge (Canadian) as an American, and Zach Grenier (American) as a Russian. Several of the supporting actors are Canadian as well.
  • Playing Their Own Twin: Jean-Claude Van Damme as Alain Moreau and Mikhail Suverov.
  • Production Posse:
    • The Russian thug 'Red Face' is played by Stefanos Miltsakakis, one of five films opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme.
    • This is the first of 3 films Van Damme made with director Ringo Lam.
  • Working Title: The film was originally filmed as The Exchange but during post-production, Sony felt that people wouldn't get the subtle title. Sony wanted something that sounded more like an action film. A new title Bloodstone was selected. Sony even used this title to promote the film in several industry publications, but they ultimately felt that the new title lacked the urgency and excitement of a Jean-Claude Van Damme film.
