  • Actor Allusion:
  • Executive Meddling: The light novel series was originally composed of just two volumes published in 2011, but after the anime became a huge success (in part by presenting a much lighter and more colourful version of the story), Kyoto Animation apparently pressed author Torako into continuing it. He did, even reintroducing Kumin and Dekomori from the anime as a gesture, but it all ended after only two more volumes in 2014 and 2017.
  • No Export for You: Like all of Kyoto Animation's self-published works, the four light novels are not sold outside of Japan, and it would take the efforts of three separate Fan Translation groups to make them available in English. The original two volumes were first translated by ultimatemegax in late 2012. In May 2017, KitaKamiOoi picked up the torch and worked until May 2021, finishing Volume 3 and about 2/3 of the final volume, but going silent after that. Volume 4 would not be finished until February 2024 when the CClaw Translations group completed translating the final three chapters and epilogue + afterword. Vague comments from a pirate website indicated that it was due to a lack of the raw text since KyoAni does not publish ebook versions of their novels, and a contributor had to provide scanned images of the actual book's pages so that CClaw could finish the project.
  • Star-Making Role: Rikka served as this for Maaya Uchida.
