• So My Kids Can Watch: His appearances in Doctor Who and Taskmaster among other things have been prompted by the fact that his children are big fans of the show in question. They are apparently particularly obsessed with the latter, to the point where one of the tasks that appeared in Series 10 was in fact created by his daughter.
• What Could Have Been: He played the role of Raymond Barone in a mooted British remake of Everybody Loves Raymond (which would have been set in a British-Irish family where My Beloved Smother and her unspeakable husband were Irish immigrants into Britain). Unfortunately, this never got past the pilot. It is possible Not Going Out, which in its later runs became a saga of dysfunctional families, was initially considered to be a consolation prize.
