Trivia / Journey to the West (1996)

• Acting for Two:
  • Angie Cheong portrays Spider Demoness Shishi in the 1996 series; and Python Demon Queen in the 1998 sequel, although Shishi doesn't reappear in this sequel.
  • ... And several other actors/actresses do that too, even within the same season, for perhaps budget reasons.
• The Other Darrin:
  • Wukong is played by Dicky Cheung in 1996 series and by Benny Chan in the 1998 sequel.
  • Guanyin is played by Mini Kung in 1996 series and by Joyce Koi in the 1998 sequel.
• What Could Have Been: If reports from magazines at the time (circa 2000) were correct, TVB actually had plans for making a third season, despite the second already having a satisfying conclusion. Allegedly, the third season would begin with a depressing case of History Repeats, where Sun Wukong (since his promotion as a War God in the second season's conclusion) accidentally broke the rules and was Kicked Out of Heaven, dragging his mentor Tang Sanzhang with him where they're forced to repeat the Journey all over again. Surveys from fans and audiences were overwhelmingly negative, to say the least (since a Happy Ending Override is the last things the fans wanted), combined with TVB's financial problems at the time, leading to the show being rebooted in 2002 instead.
