Trivia / John Wick: Chapter 2

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: Ares's fighting style was built around Ruby Rose's real-life experience in boxing; obviously it became much more complex.
  • California Doubling:
    • Unlike the first film, which was shot entirely in New York and its surroundings, this film uses Montreal to double as New York during a few scenes. The opening vehicle chase was filmed in downtown Montreal (right until the shot of the bike hitting Wick's car, which was filmed in New York), in addition to the sequence of Wick fighting off the assassins in the subway, which was filmed at Place-des-Arts and its metro station (the mural L'histoire de la musique à Montréal is clearly visible in one shot). The fight against the Sumo assassin likewise was filmed at Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle.
    • The New York art museum that features in the film was also filmed elsewhere, at La Galleria Nazionale in Rome.
    • While not as far a jump as previous examples, the "C Train" used in the subway fight is actually a NY/NJ PATH train running from World Trade Center, with the PATH logo visible on the train itself and the original Exchange Place placard seen in several shots alongside the fake MTA subway signs.
  • Cast the Expert: John's Italian "tailor" is played by the film's costume designer Luca Mosca. According to director Chad Stahelski, there was no need to go find an Italian man who could lovingly describe John's tactical suit when they already had such a person on hand.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: Just like the previous film, the Japanese dub has a celebrity in the cast, in this case Cassian is voiced by TV actor Mitsutoshi Shundo.
  • Deleted Scene: Several, each of which are included in the Blu-ray extras:
    • Early on, Santino would have visited Aurelio's chop shop to find out where John Wick lives. As he refuses to answer, he is beaten and robbed.
    • While in Rome, John takes the time to visit Vatican City and receive a blessing before he goes on his mission. His blessing, "Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat"note , is also written as one of John's tattoos.
    • There would have been a scene between Winston and Santino (also featuring a cameo from Charlie, the leader of the body disposal crew from the first film, who otherwise doesn't appear in this one), in which they discuss Gianna's assassination, as well as foreshadow the circumstances of Santino's death.
    • Not included among the Blu-ray extras is a fight that would've taken place in New York's Chinatown as part of the sequence in which John fends off a gauntlet of assassins after Santino places a bounty on his head. A very brief remnant of this scene can be spotted in the final film: The scene in which the Continental's clerks create the bounty includes a shot of John walking through Chinatown. The idea of a fight taking place in Chinatown would be Saved for the Sequel, albeit mostly indoors rather than on the street.
  • Directed by Cast Member: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Javier Pontón is the ADR director as well as Jimmy's voice actor.
  • Fake Nationality: According to supplementary material, Ares is Italian but is played by the Australian Ruby Rose. It helps that, being mute, nobody can tell her accent is wrong.
  • Fake Russian: Peter Stormare, master of Plays Great Ethnics is at work yet again by playing a Russian (he's Swedish, just like Michael Nyqvist, who played Viggo in the first film).
  • Hey, It's That Place!: The rooftop garden scene with Winston and John Wick is the same setting as seen in Spider-Man when Spider-Man saves Mary Jane from the Green Goblin.
  • No Stunt Double: Keanu Reeves performed about 95% of the film's stunts himself. The only stunts that he didn't do are the ones in which John Wick gets hit by a car, and the one in which he falls down the stairs during the fight with Cassian.
  • The Other Darrin: Aside from René García, Fabián Mejía and Eduardo Fonseca returning to voice John Wick, Winston and Charon from the Latin American Spanish dub of the first film produced by Zima, none of the original actors returned to reprise their roles, since most of the dub was recorded in Los Angeles.
