Trivia / Inferno Cop

Go To

  • Banned in China: The show was listed on a 2015 list of banned anime and manga from the Chinese Ministry of Culture.
  • Development Hell: A second season had been announced at AnimeNext in 2017, however nothing has come out of it since the initial announcement and in light of Akira Amemiya's current involvement with the Gridman Universe, as well as the unfortunate passing of Inferno Cop's voice actor Junichi Goto in 2020, it's looking increasingly unlikely that it'll come to pass. According to TRIGGER at Anime Expo 2022, the second season was put on hold due to various developmental issues preventing its production, combined with Akira Amemiya being put on the aforementioned Gridman Universe. That said, they did express an interest in continuing it, they just need the right team and direction to do it.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The two special episodes have only been shown at conventions (one of which in particular was only aired in New Jersey at AnimeNext 2016), and have not seen an official release on the internet. Considering both had audience participation segments, it's somewhat unsurprising as to why they've never been released.
  • Word of God: Information about the characters and the show as a whole were revealed at a 2017 Anime Expo panel:
    • Inferno Cop's real name is "Johnson and Johnson." He's physically powerful but lacking in subjects such as math, thinks about his family often, and is graduating from middle school.
    • Ariel Suzuki is graduating from college.
    • Mr. Judge is in the Massachusetts Art Institute.
    • The female Southern Cross member from episode 4 (the one who keeps exclaiming "Splendid! The world is practically ours!") is named Vega. She is 44 years old and is unmarried.
    • The English subtitles for the show are bad on purpose.
    • The showrunners had only an hour a week to develop it since production of Kill la Kill was being made while it was being worked on.
    • The showrunners made a crossover episode with Little Witch Academia wherein Inferno Cop encounters Sucy and denounces magic being used as a corrupting influence. After a short battle, Lotte intervenes and comes out of the combat completely unharmed. Afterwards, a giant Hellfire Boy monster appears, and Sucy and Inferno Cop use their powers to defeat it. It was unaired because it was unapproved by Trigger's directors. Other information about the short was disclosed, such as an old woman carrying bread (like Hellfire Boy's remains) for occult purposes and Sucy mentioning the academy is in North America (even though the franchise is set in Britain) and has a 400% employment rate.
