- Contractual Purity: Obviously an attempt by Daniel Radcliffe to move away from the family-friendly image of Harry Potter - playing a character who curses, has a sex scene, and is suspected of rape and murder.
- Dawson Casting: Michael Adamthwaite plays Eric, who was in middle school with Ig. He is eight years older than Daniel Radcliffe in real life.
- Fake American:
- All four leads are played by British actors - Juno Temple, Max Minghella, Joe Anderson and of course Daniel Radcliffe (in one of his first American roles).
- Laine MacNeil, who plays the young Glenna, is Canadian.
- Never Work with Children or Animals: Subverted! One scene called for Juno Temple to be covered with snakes. The actress confessed that she actually loves snakes and thinks they're beautiful, and thus had no problem with the scene.
- What Could Have Been: Shia Le Beouf dropped out of the lead, and was replaced with Daniel Radcliffe.
