The story in general:

  • Baby Name Trend Starter: Heidi is a rare name in English-speaking countries. Without the influence of Heidi and its adaptations, it probably wouldn't be a name at all.
  • Science Imitates Art: The minor planet 2521 Heidi is named for the main character.

The 1937 film:

  • Actor-Inspired Element: Shirley Temple suggested Delmar Watson for the role of Peter, having worked with him in To The Last Man.
  • California Doubling: The scenes in the Alps were of course filmed in California.
  • Deleted Scene: A scene where Heidi teaches Peter how to read.
  • Enforced Method Acting:
    • Delmar Watson was only given his lines the day before his scenes because the director wanted Peter to seem "slow".
    • Shirley Temple didn't know she was going to get squirted in the face when milking the goat; her surprised reaction is genuine.
  • No Stunt Double: Shirley Temple did the first few takes of Heidi getting butted by a goat herself. While it wasn't painful, her mother soon grew worried, and the remaining takes used a double.

The 1968 TV film:
