  • Author Existence Failure: Sadly one of the twin brothers who founded the Guinness Book Of Records, Ross McWhirter note  was murdered on his own doorstep by Provisional IRA terrorists for his trenchant comments on how The Troubles should be dealt with. His brother carried on the series after his untimely death.
  • Follow the Leader: A few other books about world records (mainly having the same format of book) have sprung up over the years.
    • The Top 10 of Everything series, which lists ten of the biggest records of something.
    • The Scholastic Book of World Records series, which devotes an entire page to the record holder as well as lists the four runners up.
  • Franchise Ownership Acquisition: Guinness World Records was owned by the aptly named Guinness Superlatives for decades. The group was later purchased by beverage company Diageo. In 2001, Gullane Entertainment purchased Guinness PLC, and Gullane itself was bought by HIT Entertainment just one year later. In 2008, HIT's then-parent company, Apax Partners, sold Guinness World Records to the Jim Pattinson Group of Ripley's Believe It or Not! fame.
