Trivia / Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!

  • Actor Allusion: Strangely, the official opening ceremony contained one to the same work. When the actors came out and Benicio del Toro, out of character and As Himself, was standing in the Collector's spot, he said, "Oh, I don't think he'll mind. We're very close." This is the same kind of terminology that character actors in the Disney Parks use to refer to their characters to keep up the idea that the characters are real, separate people.
  • Christmas Rushed: According to Behind the Attraction, the ride was the result of a 2016 executive mandate to create a new E-ticket attraction for California Adventure in a very short timeframe, with a hard deadline of May 2017. With no room or time to build a new ride from scratch, designers noted that, in comparison to Florida’s version, DCA’s Tower of Terror didn’t inherently resemble a hotel if stripped of the signage. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set to release the month the new attraction was due, the decision was made to convert the Hollywood Tower Hotel into the Collector’s fortress for a Guardians ride. While the aesthetics of the ride completely changed, the new ride uses the exact same mechanisms as the original due to the rushed schedule.
  • Demand Overload: An odd example of this happening to a theme park ride. When the ride first opened, the wait times for the line hit fourteen hours, with said line being so long that it snaked through the entirety of California Adventure and went outside the park gates. Nowadays, wait times are typically much shorter, with the peak wait being about an hour and a half long.
  • The Other Darrin: Vin Diesel is the only OG Guardians actor not to reprise his role as Groot—instead, he is voiced by Fred Tatasciore.
