- Award Category Fraud: Karl Malden won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series in spite of having more screentime (and being more well-known) than Gary Cole and being Billed Above the Title.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: Despite the notoriety of the case this is based on, this miniseries has never been given any kind of remaster or release on DVD and streaming. The only way the watch it are uploads of old recordings from either its 1984 network debut or some later cable reruns.
- Star-Making Role: Gary Cole's chilling turn as Jeffrey MacDonald jump-started his career.
- What Could Have Been: Alec Baldwin was considered for the role of Jeffrey MacDonald. It worked out well since Gary Cole looks quite a bit like MacDonald.
