With The Mare From the Moon, Evilhumour is one of the first, if not the very first, to cover the issue of Spike actually needing to have a hoard due to a combination of his inherent magic (Greed Growth) and biology (carnivore) in fanfiction.
During Holiday and Lofty's appearance in The Mare From the Moon, the two had only appeared in a chapter book and not been pictured, so they're depicted as being light yellow and aqua, respectively, in color. Both "Ponyville Mysteries" issue 3, released a few months later, and season 9's episode "The Last Crusade", released over a year later, gave them different color schemes.
The same episode also identified them as actually living somewhere else and just preparing to move to Ponyville towards the end, whereas this story portrayed them as already living in Ponyville full-time.
Twilight refers to Spike as her son here. In season 9, it's established that their relationship is a sibling one.
Throw It In!: Spliced's moniker of "Viral Maniac" was suggested by a user on the Spacebattles thread well over a year prior to making it into the story.
