  • Awesome, Dear Boy: A two-sider. Cassandra Peterson was struggling to find someone to direct the film when Sam Irwin came along. On telling him that it was going to parody the Roger Corman Edgar Allen Poe movies of the 60s, he immediately launched into a spoof of Vincent Price's monologue from The Pit and the Pendulum.
  • Creator-Chosen Casting:
    • Cassandra Peterson was familiar with Mary Jo Smith's work on Mad TV, and offered her the role of Lady Ema Hellsubus.
    • The role of Zou Zou was also written for Mary Scheer.
  • Friendship on the Set: Scott Atkinson, who'd been a huge fan of both Cassandra Peterson and Richard O'Brien, did the film purely to work with them, and ended up building lasting friendships with them.
  • Hey, It's That Place!: The castle set was previously used in the 1988 comedy High Spirits.
  • In Memoriam: The film is dedicated both to Vincent Price and Phil Hartman.
  • Looping Lines: Gabi Andronache was cast for his looks, and didn't speak any English, so the decision was made to dub him in a parody of Hong Kong Dubbing. Rob Paulsen supplied the voiceover.
  • No Budget: Made for only $1 million, and Cassandra Peterson and her husband raised the money themselves, without any studio backing.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Adrian the stable boy was written for Fabio, but he was asking for more money than the production could afford, and it went to Gabi Andronache.
    • Richard Chamberlain was supposed to star, but dropped out two weeks before shooting, and was replaced with Richard O'Brien.
    • Scott Atkinson intended to do a Vincent Price impression for the role, but he felt it wasn't good enough. On watching All About Eve, he decided to imitate George Sanders instead.
