• Contest Winner Cameo: The Builderdom's Best structures that appear on the Explorer's Shores were made by the one hundred winners from a contest for the first Dragon Quest Builders.
• Channel Hop: While the first game was developed by then-Square Enix Business Division 5 (today known as Creative Business Unit III), this game was developed by Koei Tecmo's Omega Force, better known for their Dynasty Warriors series and who are already familiar with Dragon Quest after developing Dragon Quest Heroes for Square Enix. Kazuya Niinou's unit at CBD III did help, but quite a bit of the legwork was done by Omega Force.
• Truth in Television: "Night Soil" might seem like a quirky name to avoid saying poop or excrement in the game, but it's actually a real thing. Before the advent of interior plumbing, trade workers would manually collect the contents of privies, cesspools, latrines and others during the night (hence the name) and would bring it to be used as fertilizer in farms.
