- The Cast Showoff: Peter Davison shows off his fencing skills.
- No Stunt Double: Peter Davison and Anthony Ainley did the Doctor and the Master's Sword Fight themselves.
- Off-the-Shelf FX: Kamelion's prop was most definitely not made specifically for the notoriously low budget Doctor Who show itself. John Nathan-Turner was looking for a replacement for K-9, who'd been ousted two seasons prior after the production team deemed him overpowered. He just happened to discover a humanoid animatronic created by Mike Power and Chris Padmore, which they had created for another aborted production, and decided to roll with it.
- Pop-Culture Urban Legends: It was rumoured that the story was originally supposed to feature the Monk from "The Time Meddler" and "The Daleks' Master Plan", presumably because of its similar premise.
- Troubled Production: Before or since, there hasn’t been a character who embodied this trope more than Kamelion. The machine itself was unfinished even before it was suggested to be on the show. During filming, his creator, Mike Power, died before he could fully explain how to work his invention. This caused great difficulty for the crew to operate him, constantly breaking down during production. This was already on a tight schedule thanks to union strikes. He was such a pain to use that they only brought him back next season just to get rid of him.
- What Could Have Been: BRIAN BLESSED, Julian Glover, Michael Jayston, Peter Vaughan and Edward Woodward were considered for Ranulf.
- Working Title: The Android, The Demons, A Knight's Tale and Demons Keeper.
