Trivia / Cocomelon

Go To

  • Adored by the Network:
    • The Cartoonito block on Cartoon Network loves this show. It airs the most times out of the shows on the block (up to 90 minutes every weekday), and is often given a lot of promotion. Given the show's popularity, this is understandable.
    • Universal Kids airs four hours of this show a day.
    • Netflix gets enough mileage out of the show to sometimes display it on the backdrop showing various programming that appears on the sign-in screens. They have also featured it in their Netflix Jr. magazine, despite it not being a Netflix Original Series. It helps that it's always one of the most watched children's offerings on the platform in general.
  • Executive Meddling: According to a Time article, a song about JJ and Cody finding baby items in the latter's house was changed for this reason. Originally, there was a scene where Cody found a pacifier and said it was meant for babies. Executives vetoed this idea, because babies, many of whom still use pacifiers, are included in the target demographic for the videos.
  • The Merch: Merchandise for the series began appearing in either 2021 or 2022 at many major retailers. Merchandise includes plush and other types of toys, clothing, baby food branded with the characters, personal hygiene products such as body wash and more.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: There's a popular urban legend that the series is based on the Watts family. In the series, there are three characters named Cece, Bella, and Nico, which also happen to be the names of the children that were murdered by their father, Chris Watts, in 2018. This was debunked by the creators, since the idea for Cocomelon predates the Watts family murders.
  • Recycled Script: Some videos that originally starred JJ were remade with Cody and his family, including "First Day Of School", "Bad Dreams" and "Sick Song".
  • Screwed by the Network: In February 2024, the show was suddenly pulled from Cartoon Network's Cartoonito block without warning despite being one of the block's highest-rated series. This was because said block was shortened to an hour in length to make room for normal Cartoon Network programming.
  • Sleeper Hit: The series started as a channel called ThatsMEOnTV that uploaded educational videos. After two rebrands, it began producing original animated videos featuring a set cast of characters. As the channel's first two incarnations were rather obscure, Cocomelon was not expected to do well. It is now the second most-subscribed to YouTube channel in the world, and the song "Bath Song" is the ninth most-watched YouTube video of all time. Additionally, since Cocomelon first became available on Netflix, it had almost never left the service's daily posted list of top 10 shows/movies watched in the United States. Though it has never once topped the list, it has almost always been at least somewhere on it, and has risen at least as high as fourth. This changed once Netflix made changes to how the top 10 are ranked, though the series still surfaces in the top 10 from time to time.
