• Dueling Works: A Special Sesame Street Christmas was filmed the same year and released by CBS. Both specials were nominated for the Emmy Award; Christmas Eve won. It also won with the viewing public, becoming a favorite rebroadcast at the holidays for many years and getting a home video release while Special was practically never heard of again despite getting a DVD release in 2012.
• Meaningful Release Date: Mr. Hooper, who is Jewish, puts up a menorah and smiles at Bob when he is wished a Happy Hanukkah. In 1978, the year this special premiered, the first night of Hanukkah fell on Christmas Eve.
