Heartwarming / Christmas Eve on Sesame Street

Go To

  • The scene where a little girl notices Big Bird's Failures on Ice and patiently shows him how to skate. Big Bird is nervous and clumsy at first, but within minutes, they're practically dancing to José Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad." And at the end, they share a hug.
  • Ernie stumbles upon one of Bert's lost paperclips. He identifies it immediately as a "1957 ACME." Now that's friendship. Ernie doesn't really care about paperclips, but his friendship with Bert means so much to him that he has actually paid attention and learned enough about paperclips to make that identification.
  • Bob wishing Mr. Hooper a Happy Hanukkah and Mr. Hooper wishing him a Merry Christmas in return. A small but sweet showcase of how people of different faiths and cultures can be the best of friends.
  • Mr. Hooper has just returned the paperclips and Rubber Duckie (which they had just given up as part of the Gift of the Magi Plot). Bert and Ernie are upset that they don't have anything to give Mr. Hooper in return, but he just smiles. He got to see how much the two cared about each other, and that was a gift to him.
  • After Big Bird nearly freezes waiting on the roof to see how Santa gets down the chimney, he comes down into Gordon's apartment to find that the presents are already under the tree—Christmas still came, even though Big Bird didn't see how Santa did it.
  • "And if that isn't a true blue miracle, I don't know what one is..."
  • Linda teaches the children to sing "Keep Christmas with You (All Through the Year)" in sign language as a Christmas present for Bob. Linda is deaf, but even though she's not able to hear the music, she knows how important it is for Bob and finds a way for her to participate in what's special to him.
    • While the children are singing and signing, this exchange happens between Bob and Linda (in sign language):
Bob: You taught them to sign?
    Linda: Merry Christmas to you!
    Bob: Thank you.
