- Follow the Leader: In an attempt to cash in on the success of Volume 5, there were several copycats. These included:
- DC Comics:

- Superman: Red and Blue
- Wonder Woman: Black and Gold
- Harley Quinn: Black + White + Redder
- Marvel Comics:
- Wolverine: Black, White, & Blood
- Carnage: Black, White, & Blood
- Deadpool: Black, White, & Blood
- Elektra: Black, White & Blood
- Moon Knight: Black, White & Blood
- Marvel Zombies: Black, White & Blood
- Alien: Black, White & Blood
- Star Wars (Marvel)
- Star Wars: Darth Vader – Black, White & Red
- Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red
- Red Sonja: Black, White, Red for Dynamite Comics.
- DC Comics:
- Older Than They Think: Prior to Volume 5, there were comics that listed their limited color palette in the title:
- Grendel: Red, White, & Black for Dark Horse Comics in 1998.
- Shi: Black, White, and Red for Crusader Comics in 1998.
- Revised Ending: "Good Evening, Midnight" revolves around Alfred reading a letter Thomas Wayne left to be read by his son, in which he talks about how a doctor is at risk of becoming obsessed with a never-ending crusade against disease and hopes that nothing like that happens to Bruce (cue Ironic Juxtaposition with images of Batman's never-ending crusade against crime). As originally scripted, the story ended with Alfred burning the letter so Bruce would never read it; this ending was vetoed by Scott Peterson, the head editor of the Batman comics, who felt it was out of character, and the published version of the story instead ends with Alfred hiding the letter in a safe place until, presumably, he judges Bruce is ready to read it.
