Heartwarming / Batman: Black and White

Go To

  • In "Guardian", retired Green Lantern Alan Scott meets Batman shortly after the events of Batman: Year One, and though they clash, in the end the elder hero shows Batman why he stopped: his ring's power had been growing as his creativity increased, until he idly wondered if he could use his power to banish all evil. The very thought terrified him, understanding Gotham needed a guardian, not a god. A mellowed Batman accepts this, and after reminiscing about Gotham's golden past for one last time, they part as friends.
  • "Gargoyles of Gotham" focuses on the gargoyles on Gotham's rooftops, where it's revealed that Bruce uses one gargoyle as a secret hiding place, holding spare costumes, equipment, civilian suits, etc. He calls it Clark.
  • "I'm Watching You". A janitor named David Thompson was the last to be caught in a crime bust and begged Batman for a second chance. Batman took his license and let him go. From then on, Thompson always felt Batman was watching. While going to bed with his cat, Thompson concludes that Batman had probably never checked on him again, but appreciates how the encounter had turned Thompson's life around. Batman, watching through binoculars, ticks his name off a mental list with a smile.
  • "Hide and Seek": Batman is investigating a train crash in the subway with Gordon, spots a shred of evidence, then rushes to track someone. Gordon and his crew initially assume Batman is looking for a villain, but it turns out a child was hit by the train and wandered off. The boy is dazed and frightened, but alive, and Batman carries him off to get medical attention.
  • Harley and Ivy are about to rob a bank when a little girl comes to them screaming for help. This is unusual, considering they are supervillains. Harley tries to shoo her away, only to see her collapse. Her doctor's training takes over, and she drops from the bank wall to tend to the girl as Ivy shouts in frustration. Her kidnapper Playground comes, and the girl says that he lied that he knew Batgirl, hitting her when she fought back. Ivy's expression changes. She comes down as well. Ivy and Harley say that Batgirl's not here, but they're happy to fill in for her. The end result is Batman has to save Playground from Ivy's poison, but he lets the women go as the girl asked if they were bad.
