  • Actor Leaves, Character Dies: General Hague was killed off because the actor had been booked for a two-parter in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine at the same time. At least one blooper delivered by Bruce McGill (who played Major Ryan) references the situation.
  • Enforced Method Acting: The debris wasn't supposed to fall so close to the reporters. Their reactions were genuine shock.
  • Reality Subtext: Mira Furlan, who escaped Croatia in the early '90s, drew on her fury with the European powers who failed to help when the Balkans went to hell to fuel her speech to the Grey Council. Obviously, it worked. Furlan actually asked JMS, "So when did you go to Croatia?"
  • On-Set Injury: Jerry Doyle broke his arm for real. Unfortunately the scene showing him with a broken ankle was filmed BEFORE the accident and later episodes ignored the broken ankle and show Garibaldi with an arm cast, explaining that this was the injury sustained in the fight.
  • One-Take Wonder: Delenn's speech to the Grey Council would have likely been one if not for an uncooperative staff that Furlan was initially unable to snap in two.
  • Throw It In!: The monitor near Sheridan that exploded when an enemy Starfury was shot down (and crashed onto the blast doors of C & C) wasn't supposed to erupt in flames (but it did anyway) so a background extra was given a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. It added a sense of realism to the scene so they kept it in.
  • What Could Have Been: J. Michael Straczynski wrote the role of Major Ryan for Everett McGill, after being impressed with his work on Twin Peaks and meeting him in a restaurant. But, he couldn't remember his first name while talking with the casting director, so he told her to get "that McGill guy". When she suggested he might mean Bruce McGill, whom she'd worked with before, he agreed. He only found out his mistake too late. But ever since, he's been sure to emphasize that he thought Bruce did a great job.
  • Written-In Infirmity: Jerry Doyle broke his arm for real during the filming of one of the battle scenes. Unfortunately the scene showing him with a broken ankle was filmed BEFORE the accident and later episodes ignored the broken ankle and show Garibaldi with an arm cast, explaining that this was the injury sustained in the fight.
