Trivia / Avalon (Roxy Music)

Go To

  • Channel Hop: The US release of Avalon saw Roxy Music briefly jump back to Warner (Bros.) Records after a lengthy tenure on their sister label, Atco Records. Following the band's dissolution the following year, their full catalog, this album included, would be shifted over to fellow Warner label Reprise Records in the US.
  • Referenced by...: "More Than This" famously received a Cover Version courtesy of the Mary Ramsey-fronted 10,000 Maniacs in 1997, surpassing the original in popularity. Incidentally, it's generally considered the only notable work by the band following the 1993 departure of former frontwoman Natalie Merchant.
  • Sleeper Hit: While initially a slow seller in the U.S. despite favorable reviews, as with other Roxy Music releases, the album's sales slowly picked up until it was certified gold in 1986 and platinum in 1992. It's the band's most popular release in that country and still the only one to be certified, with its sales in part spurred along by positive word-of-mouth among audiophiles thanks to its lavish, jazz-influenced production.
