Trivia / Area 11

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: Zigzagged with the Underline EP. It did quite well in terms of sales given the band's size and got a positive response, but the merchandise did not sell as well as predicted, hence why there are no plans to restock what is left.
  • Approval of God: Sparkles* is aware there's fanfic online and doesn't mind too much, saying he's both bemused and flattered.
  • Creator Backlash: During the commentaries for All the Lights in the Sky, Sparkles* mentions that several songs were changed from their Euphemia versions because they were just too difficult to play live.
  • Creative Differences: This is why Luke left the band, though he stayed to record some material for "All the Lights In The Sky" and the band are still on good terms with him.
  • He Also Did: Sparkles* did the editing and voiceovers for the Jaffa Factory in Tekkit, mostly when perspectives change from Lewis Brindley, Simon Lane and Duncan Jones to Sips and Sjin.
  • Missing Episode: As of this writing, several of their Let's Play videos have been made private for unknown reasons, presumably so that the channel focuses on the music.
  • Orphaned Series: Eventually GIGACRAFT, which Sparkles* says is down to it being too difficult to make on top of the band's work, plus also getting Beckii Cruel involved and on Minecraft.
  • Real-Life Relative: Fellow collaborator "Oliver Aged 24" (of Superpowerless fame) and Sparkles* are actually cousins.
  • Schedule Slip:
    • GIGACRAFT has been afflicted with a case of this. Episodes one to four were each released a day apart starting at the end of April, with no sign of the fifth. Sparkles* eventually admitted that it was too difficult to make a Machinima and also do work for the band.
    • The Gaijin Review has not had any new episodes since January 2014.
  • Troubled Production:
    • This sort of happened with parts of the Ichi Tour. They had to drop out of the Ireland dates due to financial and logistical differences, then had at least one of their support bands ditch them at the last minute. In at least one of those cases, this was because the support band's singer had a mental breakdown and fled to Scotland.
    • They were also supposed to support Enter Shikari during the Bristol date for The Mindsweep Tour, but things... got messy. Apparently, Rou Reynolds, lead vocalist for Enter Shikari, suffered from some sort of violent reaction to his nervous system - thought to be allergic - and they had to cancel that date. Thankfully, they scheduled a replacement date that Area 11 would be supporting them in, and Area 11 weren't too upset over it to begin with.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • "All the Lights In the Sky" was due to have two more tracks on it, including "Homunculus", but they were cut.
    • "The Strays" was originally going to be called "Stub Out the Stars". There was also no sax solo in the intro.
    • Their November 2014 Ichi Tour was meant to involve a show in Belfast and then Dublin, but due to financial reasons both had to be cut from the schedule. The band apologised profusely for this and have vowed to try again at some point in the future.
  • Why the Fandom Can't Have Nice Things:
    • While Sparkles* does still lurk in the official fan group on Facebook, he's not actually a member any more. The reason for this is that someone started a petition using Sparkles*' Facebook email which redirected to his main one, basically spamming him. Just what happened is still not entirely clear; apparently something called "#KillColin" started, but further details tend to trigger the fandom's Berserk Button. Potentially subverted as of July 2015, since he's re-emerged, but fans are still being quite careful.
    • People began spamming "RIP Parv" so much that admins began banning it in the Yogscast stream chat (to no avail, since the crew proper kept saying it and refused to let it die). Later efforts to use the meme as a chat emoticon were also banned eventually due to more spam.
  • Word of God: During the "Bedtime Bash" livestream, the band confirmed that "Are You Listening" is not about people misinterpreting Digital Haunt clues.

Unrelated Trivia

Kogie and Leo were technically members of the Yogscast, as the band was signed under the Yogscast record label. In practice, however, they did not do much with them beyond appearing in the odd video, usually with Parv. Similarly, Sparkles* ended up Passing the Torch to Sam Gibbs, who took his post as full-time audio engineer, although he returns for the odd bit of freelance work and is still on good terms with the Yogs. Parv stayed on as a content producer until the end of 2014, and then left.

Sparkles claims to have spent over £30,000 on instruments for ATLITS.
