  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $40 million. Box office, $18 million (domestic), $22 million (international).
  • Creator Killer: This is to date the last film directed by Brian Robbins. He has maintain some work though as a producer and a writer along with replacing Cyma Zarghami as the president of Nickelodeon in 2018.
  • Direct to Video: After the movie had a disastrous opening in the United States, a United Kingdom cinema release for the film was dropped and released direct-to-video as it was in several other European countries, despite trailers advertising its release.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: A Thousand Words was filmed in 2008 and scheduled for a 2009 release, but it was caught in the cross-hairs of the Paramount-DreamWorks SKG split and was delayed repeatedly due to disagreements between the two studios and poor test screenings. A release date of March 9, 2012 was finally decided.
  • Star-Derailing Role: Seemed to be the final blow to Eddie Murphy’s career, having done very little work (it would take four years before his next film was released) after this film flopped, until his apparent Career Resurrection with Dolemite Is My Name seven years later.
