• California Doubling: The 1991 film. While set in Philadelphia and New York City, it was mostly filmed in London.
• Dawson Casting: Then 30-year old Sean Young as the presumably early-to-mid-20's Dorothy and Ellen (Dorothy is seen at college in the opening scenes).
• Focus Group Ending: The original climax shot for the movie took place at the Carlsson Copper Factory, as it happens in Ira Levin's book, but it failed test screenings so the climax was changed to Jonathan's childhood home in Pennsylvania.
• Missing Trailer Scene: Glimpses of the original climax of the 1991 film are visible in the trailer.
• Playing Their Own Twin: Sean Young as twins Ellen and Dorothy, even though they're never onscreen together.
• What Could Have Been:
  • James Dearden originally wanted River Phoenix to play Jonathan, but he couldn't relate to the material and couldn't play someone so evil. Dearden then approached Kiefer Sutherland who turned down the offer due to scheduling conflicts.
  • Bridget Fonda was originally cast Dorothy and Ellen, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Diane Lane was also considered.
