Go To

  • All-Star Cast: This game contains many huge names in wrestling, as typical of AEW. CM Punk (making his first video game appearance in years), Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Jeff Hardy, Sting, Paul Wight and Chris Jericho.
  • Extremely Lengthy Creation: The game was announced on November 2020, but was released in June 2023. During that time, the game did not have a release date, and one would not be announced until a month before release.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: On November 2023, the official AEW Games Discord server held a contest where members could submit loading screen tips, the winning submissions would be added in a future patch. Seventeen entries were chosen, and the winning tips were added in an update on February 14, 2024, coinciding with the launch of Season 3.
  • Pre-Order Bonus: Pre-ordering the game netted you free access to Matt Hardy in both his normal self and his Broken gimmick.
  • Produced by Cast Member: In addition to being featured in the game as a playable wrestler, Kenny Omega acts as a producer.
  • Production Lead Time: Due to the game spending a lengthy period of time in development, the game features aspects of AEW that had become severely outdated by a year by the time of release. This affected wrestlers with gimmicks note , tag teams note , arenas note , and championships note . The most notable instance is the presence of Cody Rhodes, who had left AEW in early 2022 to sign with WWE.
    • This also impacted DLC as well. Toni Storm appeared in the game under her Outcasts persona, despite the fact that she had already transitioned to her "Timeless" persona by the time the DLC had released. Even more glaring was the fact she even appeared in the trailer promoting the DLC as "Timeless" Toni Storm.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Likely due to licensing issues, while a select few wrestlers note  were able to carry their licensed entrance themes into the game, several wrestlers did not get their licensed themes, instead either using old AEW themes note  or in-house produced soundalikes. note
    • Strangely, despite not being licensed music, Christian Cage, The Young Bucks and Lance Archer do not have their respective themes in the game. note  Instead, Cage and Archer uses in-house produced soundalikes, while the Bucks use the theme song for Being the Elite.
  • Troubled Production: According to reports, the game went over budget note , resulting in a limited roster and planned features being cut. Additionally, there have also been reports of tension between producer Kenny Omega and developer Yuke's.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Kenny Omega stated that the game would feature cross-platform play. However, in the lead-up to launch THQ Nordic revealed in a FAQ that the game does not support cross-platform play, but does support cross-generation play between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
    • Early promotional art for the game prominently featured CM Punk front and center. However, after Punk was suspended following a backstage altercation with The Elite in the aftermath of All Out 2022, an official cover was released in November with Punk completely absent. note
    • According to AEW Senior Vice President, Nik Sobic, had the team been given more time, the game would have featured not only a full AEW roster, but would have also featured wrestlers from New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
