Fall of 79: Toivosaari's last days

  • Illmari and Tapsa cross paths with Hilja during their fall scouting/hunting trip. The three of them travel together for a week.
  • Illmari and Tapsa meet up with Lalli and Ensi, and tell the latter that Hilja has been absent-minded and taking a while to recognize people during the week the three of them travelled together. Everyone assumes it's one of the possible effects of old age.
  • The group made of Ensi, Lalli, Illmari, Hilja, Tapsa and the latter's two cats spends two weeks in quarantine.
  • As the group disembarks in Toivosaari proper, Lalli's mage senses are alerted by a bundle carried by Hilja. He gets Ensi involved, but Hilja asks her to look her in the eyes and tells her there is nothing special about the bundle. The entire rest of the Hotakainen family is established to be currently helping with the harvest on another island.
  • A little over a week later: Hilja shows up for the bake sale, having apparently spent the entire time since the return in her home. She's seen conspicuously breathing towards Illmari's face and avoiding Tapsa and his cats.
  • A little under two weeks later:
    • The harvest party returns and gathers in the town center, including Jukka, Juha, Tuulikki and Anne-Mari. Onni and Tuuri don't join the gathering due to getting engrossed in other activities while dropping their family's bags at their home.
    • A party including Ensi, Illmari and Tapsa is formed to raid Hilja's house. Lalli discreetly follows them. The bundle that had alerted Lalli earlier turns out to be infused with masking spells and to contain an infected rat. A member of the group figures out that Hilja has been under a kade's influence since before entering quarantine. A troll is found in Hilja's bedroom. Both rat beast and troll are quickly killed.
    • While Ensi stays on site to guide Hilja to the afterlife, the entire rest of the raiding party leaves to address the fact that Hilja was contagious during the bake sale. Ensi quickly realizes that the kade's influence was extended to her when she was convinced to not look into the bundle. Knowing Lalli is still present, she has him bring her rifle to Onni and get them to an off-island safe spot with Tuuri in tow.
  • A few days later: The quarantine boats arrive, and pick up the infected villagers, along with Onni, Tuuri and Lalli.
  • After the quarantine (presumed to be the standard two weeks): Onni, Tuuri and Lalli are the only people from their village to be dropped off the boat.
  • Some time later: Onni is hired in Keuruu, Tuuri and Lalli get apprenticeships for the jobs they are working at the beginning of Chapter 1.

Years 80-90

  • Year 80:
    • Battle of Kastrup, which marks Denmark giving up on reclaiming its old mainland.
    • Väinö and three other mages (Kauko, Aulikki and Sointu) are appointed as Saimaa's sentinel mages.
  • Year 84: A badly written scouting report from Lalli results in the death of four soldiers from Keuruu.
  • Year 88: Emil joins the cleansers.
  • Year 90, about three months before Chapter 1: The Denmark expedition gets its funding.

Chapter 1 onwards of Adventure I

  • Day 1: Taru picks up Tuuri and Lalli in Keuruu.
  • Day 2: The Finns join Torbjörn, Siv and Emil in Sweden, have a stopover in Mora, and embark on the Dalahästen train.
  • Day 3: The Dalahästen train arrives at Øresund military base, where Trond, Sigrun and Mikkel have already arrived. Sigrun, Mikkel, Tuuri, Lalli and Emil cross the Øresund bridge into the Silent world.

Minna went on record saying that she actually pictures the time the crew spent in the Silent World to be about twice what attentive fans basing themselves on the comic and on-page author notes alone have estimated note , meaning that about half of the expedition happened off-panel. Periods that would have technically have had space for off-panel days will be marked
  • Day 4: Spot 24 book salvaging mission.
  • [possible extra day(s) before the intial food supply runs out]
  • Day 5: Delivery of the food crates and discovery of Reynir in one of them.
  • Day 6:
    • School book salvaging mission from which Sigrun and Emil bring a kitten back.
    • Reynir establishes dreamscape contact with Onni.
    • "It" is mentioned for the first time.
  • Day 7:
    • Ensi gets her first mention.
    • Lalli slips into a coma from magic overuse.
    • Sigrun gets bitten.
    • The first signs of the unfinished Rash cure from Odense existing are found in a room full of ghosts that Lalli decribed as "weird".
  • Day 8:
    • Mikkel, Tuuri and Reynir go to Kastellet fort and find evidence of the cure coming from Odense, alongside another set of strange ghosts.
    • Trond, Taru, Torbjörn and Siv return to the expedition headquarters and find Onni waiting for them.
    • The crew's campsite gets attacked by the ghosts created by the Rash cure. Onni's long-distance intervention to neutralize them accidentally results in Sleipnope's early form.
  • Day 9:
    • Lalli wakes up.
    • Kitty gets her name.
    • The crew starts travelling to Odense.
  • During the two weeks covered by the the travel montage: Sleipnope acquires its permanent form and gathers allies.

After this point, the days are numbered assuming that the two weeks of travel were exactly fourteen days. The "~" is present to account for the fact that it can easily be a day or two later than that. Minna's statement makes the possibility of that travel having been on the short side of what one would call "two weeks" unlikely.

  • Day ~23:
    • First indications that Emil and Lalli are learning each other's languages.
    • Antique shop visit.
    • Reynir and Onni meet Pastor Anne in the dreamscape.
  • [possible extra days between meeting Anne and getting to Odense]
  • Day ~24:
    • Reynir and Lalli see an omen.
    • Odense hospital documentation salvaging mission. The crew and the backers are made aware of the undesirable side effects of the cure.
    • The future pick-up by boat is planned. The boat is mentioned to be at least twenty days away.
    • Sleipnope and its horde attack. Onni's long-distance intervention causes him to fall into a coma. Tuuri gets bitten by a troll.
    • The above events demonstrate that Reynir now makes functionning runes.
  • Day ~25:
    • Sigrun turns out to have an infection from her troll bite from Day 7.
    • Measures are taken to keep Reynir and Tuuri from being in the same room at any given time.

After this point, the timeline becomes harder to keep track of due to several small time skips whose exact lengths aren't specified in-comic or in the author notes.

  • "Several days" after Day ~25: Tuuri manages to get the tank running after the damage it incurred during the attack.
  • Uncertain number of days later:
    • Onni is established to still be comatose.
    • Reynir takes his pent-up frustration out on Lalli, who responds by having Tuuri mediate through a sealed door.
  • The following day: Tuuri and Reynir have the one-to-one talk that results in a brief flash-back from the time during which Tuuri, Lalli and Onni lived in Toivosaari.
  • Uncertain number of days later:
    • The tank and its radio are damaged beyond repair.
    • The day is spent preparing for going to the pick-up spot on foot. The boat in mentioned to be two weeks away. The on-foot travel to the pick-up spot is estimated to take one week.
    • Tuuri starts showing symptoms of the Rash and drowns herself.

Due to the incubation time of the Rash, the main story is on Day ~40 at the very latest at this point. The dates on Tuuri's grave confirm that the year is 91. However, there is plenty of time for some of the off-panel days after this point.

  • The following day:
    • Tuuri is buried.
    • Sigrun, Mikkel and Reynir leave the burial site with Kitty and the books to secure a campsite for the next night, while Lalli performs some extra rites and Emil stays with him.
    • Onni is shown to have woken up from his coma.
    • While trying to catch up with the rest of the team, Emil and Lalli wake up a giant. Lalli manages to kill it, but his spirit gets kicked out of his body in the process. In the real world, he and Emil end up adrift on an ice floe.
    • Reynir contacts Onni to tell him of Tuuri's death and the unknown status of Lalli and Emil.
    • Emil gets himself and Lalli's body to safety before falling asleep. Lalli shows up in his dream.
  • The following day:
    • Emil wakes up to discover that he can hear Lalli's voice in his head, but dismisses it as going crazy. He starts making his own way to the pick-up spot, dragging Lalli's unconscious body on a makeshift sled.
    • Sigrun finds the site of Emil and Lalli's escape from the giant and assumes the worst. She collapses from exhaustion later that day.
    • Emil has the encounter that makes him discover that he can interact with troll spirits and realize that the voice in his head really is Lalli.
  • Uncertain number of days later: Reynir finds Pastor Anne's church and convinces Sigrun and Mikkel to spend the night there. Sleipnope, the other ghosts among its horde and Pastor Anne move onto the afterlife.
  • Uncertain number of days later:
    • Sigrun, Mikkel and Reynir make it to the pick-up spot.
    • Emil and Lalli run into the dusklings. The confrontation with them results in Lalli needing to avoid getting noticed by "It" and a little help from Onni before getting back inside his body.
    • Emil and Lalli are established to be able to share dreams.
  • The following day: Emil and Lalli make it to the pick-up spot.
  • Uncertain number of days later:
    • The crew is picked up by boat and told everyone is getting a one-month long quarantine.
    • Reynir is seen exchanging distant waves with a member of the boat's crew bearing a haircut similar to Bjarni's.

Adventure II

  • During the month of quarantine on the boat, Bjarni gets a brief visit with Reynir.
  • Off the boat, Day 1:
    • Torbjörn, Siv, Trond, Taru, Onni and Reynir's parents welcome the group back.
    • The members of the crew get interviewed by a few reporters.
    • Some leisure time is spent in Reykjavik before everyone moves to Reynir's village.
  • Day 2: Onni leaves in the evening, asking Mikkel to give Lalli a letter the next day. He tells both Mikkel and Reynir he's going to Saimaa.
  • Day 3: Lalli reads the letter, in which Onni claims to have gone back to Keuruu.
  • Year 91, June 5th: Publication date of the newspaper article about the return of the crew from the Silent World.
  • Over the handful of following weeks:
    • Torbjörn and Siv leave.
    • Trond leaves.
    • Reynir gets proper magic classes, but is barred from the more combat-oriented lessons due to not being immune.
    • Kitty get Grade B cat training.
    • Reynir and Bjarni's siblings come for vacation. When the time comes for Bjarni of the other immune siblings to go back to work, Guðrún stays behind due to having quit her job to settle down with a local man.
  • Day Reynir's siblings leave: Lalli overhears a discussion between Taru and Mikkel concerning Onni's wereabouts, during which Onni's name and "Saimaa" are pronounced close to each other. Reynir's attempt to check on Onni in the dreamscape only yields signs that Onni may be in trouble.
  • Following day: Lalli travels back to Reykjavik after nightfall, leaving a letter with Emil.
  • Following day: Lalli's unsuccessful attempt to get on a boat to Finland.
  • Following day: Sigrun, Mikkel, Emil and Reynir (plus Kitty) find Lalli and all announce they are helping him search for Onni.
  • Uncertain number of days later: Stopover in Bornholm's trade hub.
  • Uncertain number of days later: Arrival on a Saimaa island with a high immune population, on which a boat and supplies are purchased.
  • Uncertain number of days later:
    • Arrival on the island on which Toivosaari used to stand. Onni is confirmed to have travelled through it a few weeks ago.
    • While spending the night in Mauri's house, Emil, Reynir and Lalli end up sharing a dream happening during Toivosaari's last days.
  • Next morning: The crew is given directions to Väino's checkpoint.
  • A couple days later: The crew goes through Väinö's checkpoint and into the Silent World area around Saimaa. Väinö warns them about a very fast and dangerous troll nicknamed "Surma" that tends to be attracted by gunshots over large distances. They quickly find one of Onni's old camping spots.
  • Next day:
    • After having set up camp for the night, the crew gets attacked by a troll and fulfills the requirements to attract Surma ten times over in the process of getting rid of it. Some of their equipment gets left behind.
    • Onni is shown to still be alive and to be accompanied by a glowing bird identical to the form in which Tuuri was seen travelling to the afterlife.
  • Next day: At the end of a day mostly spent scavenging for new equipment (and toys thanks to Emil), relatively fresh tracks from Onni and a trio of bear beasts he's tracking are found by Reynir.
  • Uncertain number of days later: Encounter with wolf beasts that are dealt with using firearms. In the process of hiding from Surma, Lalli abandons a Rubik's cube from the scavenge that he had appropriated.
  • Next day: Lalli decides to go back for his Rubik's cube under pretense of checking the crew's back, and notices Surma sheltering from the sun near the sliced-up bodies of the previous day's wolf beasts and cow beasts that had been eating them when the crew fled the site. Lalli returns to the crew's campsite, and the group runs to get as far away from Surma as possible.
  • Uncertain number of days later:
    • The crew finds Onni, who reluctantly takes them to his camp on a sprit-protected island.
    • It turns out that Onni borrowed Tuuri's soul from the Finnish afterlife and was given limited time to either free his grandmother's soul from the kade that assimilated it or be the one that returns to the afterlife alongside Tuuri. With the crew's help, a plan is made to trap the bears in pit with pikes at the bottom.
  • Next day: The trap is set for the bear beasts guarding the kade. The trap only manages to wound the bears, who leave a blood trail that the group can follow the following day.
  • Next day: A mix of rain and the mother bear being alert results in the group not reaching the bears before they climb part of a mountain to escape them.
  • Next day: The plan to deal with the bears while on the mountain results in the weak link among the bears being badly injured and the mother responding by letting out a roar that attracts Surma.
