This work has flashbacks that take place before the murder, these events will be called 'pre-murder' and 'post-murder'respectively.

Events in chonological order:

  • Pre-Murder Events:
    • Cathy exits the bus and almost falls victim to a Staircase Tumble, showing that she's a Cute Clumsy Girl. But a Pretty Boy black cat catches her by the hand, sparing her quite the Grand Staircase Entrance before giving her a smile.
    • Cathy and the black cat go on a date at Stardust Skating. But her inner Cute Clumsy Girl is demonstrated again as she struggles for balance, grabbing onto her Prince Charming for stability. He laughs at her as he better grabs both of her hands.
    • Cathy and the black cat slow dance in one of their homes to Bing Crosby's "Let Me Call You Sweetheart". Before he pulls her into a hug and kisses the top of her head.
    • The black cat stays up reading while Cathy sleeps soundly in their bed. He looks at her before he gives her another kiss on the head, turns out the light, puts the book away, and goes to bed as well.
    • The black cat is murdered by a Doberman Pinscher who intended to rob the place. It is left unsaid if the robber killed him because he wanted to, because the black cat retaliated, or if he defended Cathy. But since Cathy doesn't show much guilt for his death, she most likely didn't have to be defended.
  • Post-Murder Events:
    • Cathy drives through the forest, but is stranded when she runs out of gas. She checks the map and finds a nearby gas station. However, she finds she has no money to pay with, nevertheless, she exits her car.(First flashback to when she exits the bus)
    • She walks through the cold and up to the gas station before grabbing a jerry can to fill with fuel. She begins to fill it up, but as she finishes the cashier comes out to collect pay. She attempts to run for it but is caught, and the two enter a struggle for the gas. (Second flashback of her and the black cat roller skating)
    • She's kicked back onto a metal shelf. (Third flashback of her and the black cat dancing)
    • Cathy relates the image of the cashier calling 911 to the image of the Doberman murderer leaving her husband's body. She picks up a motor oil bottle and smashes it before charging at the cashier, attempting to stabing him with the glass. The cashier, out of shock, drops his burning cigarette into the spilled gasoline. Causing the gas pumps to explode and sending it all into inferno. (Fourth flashback when the black cat stayed up reading in their bed)
    • She wakes and finds the entire place in flames. Her ears ring as she bleeds from her head. When she looks around, she sees the cashier's body, but she ignores it for the jerry can. Having acquired the jerry can, she runs to her car and pours the fuel in before entering the car and turning it on. She gathers the map and takes a look at the "Wanted!" Poster. However, she finds it had ripped and only sees her eyes in the rear-view mirror behind it. She comes to the realization that she had become a murderer as well, just like the person she lived to get revenge on. She looks down at the wedding photo of her and the black cat. (Fifth flashback showing her Point of View of the black cat's face as they walked, skated and danced. And while he's reading in bed. The last when the black cat died)
    • She begins to cry in her car, dripping tears onto her map. After a bit she gets out her phone and leaves the car. She walks to the gas station as she dials 911, not answering the call afterward.
