Go To

A rough attempt to chronologically line up events in Dominoes. As no years have been concretely given, years are noted in relation to the year of the story's opening arc. All spoilers will be unmarked. You Have Been Warned.

Year -12

  • Ran and Shinichi become friends.

Late Year -9 or Early Year -8:

  • Ran and Shinichi encounter Kuroba Toichi in their school's library. A "few weeks" later, Shinichi encounters Toichi in Yuusaku's study. Toichi invites Shinichi to his next heist. Yuusaku is confirmed to already be against Shinichi's investigational aspirations at this point.

Year -8:

  • February 13th: KID vs. Baron disaster. There are dozens of injuries and four deaths, including Kuroba Toichi. Kuroba Kaito and Kudo Shinichi are both on-site. (Year Contested: Shinichi's Chapter 4 news report cites it as nine years prior to the story; however, in every other instance, Shinichi, Hakuba, and Kaito (twice) refer to the event as occurring eight years prior to the story). It is confirmed in chapter 10 that Hakuba Saguru was already being trained as a sidekick at this point, though he was not present at the disaster.
  • Aftermath: Yuusaku loses official jurisdiction of Tokyo. ISHA undergoes massive reforms in its employee oversight process. The Kurobas move to the United States.

Year -7:

  • Hakuba Saguru sees the Kudo library for the first time. According to Hakuba, Shinichi and him become friends in this library.
  • Professor Agasa takes a picture of Yuusaku, Yuukiko, Shinichi, Hakuba, and Ran just prior to the group's attending a charity event of the Suzukis'. Present Hakuba indicates that this is before his and Shinichi's relationship soured.

Between Year -7 and -4:

  • Shinichi's and Hakuba's friendship falls apart under the pressure of Yuusaku's frequent demonstrations of Parental Favoritism.
  • Shinichi revokes Hakuba's privilege to use Shinichi's first name, insisting he be called "Kudo."
  • Yuusaku presents Hakuba with data revealing a correlation between Yuukiko's and Shinichi's proximity to each other and unexplained strains on the mental health of the citizens of Tokyo. Yuusaku's words make clear he is aware of the false cause fallacy but strongly suspects it is more than correlation anyways.
  • Shinichi begins his career in journalism.

Year -3:

  • Miyano Shiho works with Hirota's Oxford summer research team. Picture of team taken August 23.
  • Tokyo ceases to be "peaceful" and "normal" by Shinichi's estimate - supernatural events and disasters begin to spike in frequency.
  • Shinichi produces his last print article; likely switches over to entirely digital reporting thereafter.
  • Tokyo begins updating its workplace codes in an attempt to perfect rapid worker evacuation and accessibility.

Year -2:

  • Kaito moves back to Tokyo.
  • Ran and Shinichi begin dating sometime in Autumn. (Source: Shinichi states in the present that he and Ran have been dating for a year and a half. The present of this statement being early April, a year and a half back would place the beginning of their romantic relationship sometime around the October before last).
  • Sometime in the weeks following this but before November 3rd, the Irregulars are formed. Its inaugural members are Hakuba Saguru, Mouri Ran, and Hattori Heiji. Their aliases are "Hawk," "Angel," and "Heliopause" respectively. Ran drops out of all after school activities including Karate. Shinichi begins to see Ran less often and Hakuba, Hattori, and Yuusaku more often, as they frequent the Kudo home together in between weeks-long absences. Time Estimate based on the sequence of Shinichi's photos within his phone: the photo of their date to Tropical Land, in which Ran had just begun wearing the Irregulars' Comm earrings, is followed in the phone by the school festival, which Shinichi confirms took place after their Tropical Land date. In Japan school festivals would take place on Culture Day, November 3rd.

Year -1

  • At some point during the year, Kazuha develops metahuman abilities and joins the Irregulars. Her alias becomes "Banshee."
  • During "the height of summer" while spending time at the pool, Ran and Shinichi share their last kiss.
  • At the end of summer, "the incident of nine months ago" occurs, an event that involved KID and that Aoko calls "most damning" regarding KID and Kaito. No other specific information given. Possibly Aoko's mother's death.
  • The most recent member of the Irregulars, Aoko, joins the team, likely sometime in the latter months of the year. Her alias becomes "Tsuyu." Exact timing is unconfirmed.
  • Early December: Homeless children begin to go missing off the streets of Tokyo.

      • Tuesday, April 13th: First mention via news report of Hondou Eisuke petrifying his classmates in a school bullying incident in Minneapolis, nearly leading to the death of his bully, "Andersen." Shinichi is questioned by the police, who deny belief in Shinichi's suspicion and evidence of a child kidnapping ring and take his evidence; Shinichi steals it back from the evidence locker. The Red Siamese Cats break into Nanyo University's Biochemistry and Human Genetics Building to steal Miyano Shiho's papers on the expression of metagenetics. KID assists Shinichi in discovering the files but then knocks him out and steals both Shinichi's evidence of Tequila and Miyano Shiho's files. Aoko calls Kaito and asks him out on a date to Tropical Land the next afternoon.
      • Wednesday, April 14th: Hakuba and Yuusaku present Aoko with their evidence that KID is Kuroba Kaito. Aoko meets Kaito at Tropical Land; the two end on bad terms. Shinichi pulls a favor with Jirokichi to challenge KID to an impromptu heist. KID offers to trade the evidence he stole in exchange for Shinichi's cooperation in a plot against the Night Baron. The Irregulars arrive at the heist, but are soundly defeated. Shinichi discovers and is mentally assaulted by the Night Baron; afterwards, Shinichi comes to in his room with no memory of the encounter but still has the video footage.
      • Thursday, April 15th: Yuusaku and Hakuba discuss Yuusaku's assault on Shinichi the previous night and Kaito's threat to expose them; both decide to double-down on monitoring Shinichi to prevent KID from making contact. Later, Yuusaku emotionally and mentally abuses his son and confiscates his evidence; the Irregulars witness this and promise to attend Shinichi's championship game on Sunday.
