This might be a silly, quirky Mii RPG. But that doesn't mean it won't try to punch you in the gut a few times.

  • One of the trailers for the "Casting Call" demo features the cleric and mage seemingly becoming an item, only for their friendship to teeter on the brink of collapse when the mage sees the cleric being a bit too close with the warrior. In the end, however, the cleric sacrifices themselves to save the mage from a monster, prompting the mage to avenge them.
  • The Big Bad's backstory. The Dark Curse was originally a normal person. However, everyone around him ignored him due to his face, which was dull. So, he cast away his face, leaving him as a soul stuck in hatred and misery. Poor guy.
    • Even worse with the "Break the curse" ending. You Mercy Kill the aforementioned Dark Curse, who thanks you for letting them at least find peace via Dying as Yourself. Bittersweet Ending 101.
    • The cutscene from this ending is also fittingly titled "Harsh Punishment".
    • Considering their backstory, the fact that some players tend to cast themselves as The Dark Curse's resurrected form makes you feel for other people playing the game.
  • Depending on the player's attachment and who was cast, the Great Sage getting possessed by the Dark Curse can be this. It certainly affects the protagonist Mii.
    • Matter of fact, if it hadn't been for the Great Sage Taking the Bullet, the Hero would've been turned into the new Dark Lord.
  • It's hard not to feel bad for the Fab Fairies after the Dark Lord raids the Elven Retreat. Not only that, but they keep losing their faces all throughout their arc, worrying the other sisters.
  • When the protagonist reaches Haven Hollow and they see the faceless remains of three of their companions. Just try speaking to each of them, and you'll see the protagonist is completely devastated. Even worse depending on who was cast.
  • It's played for laughs, but the protagonist must be devastated after the Realm of the Fey members are kidnapped as well. Three times the protagonist has gathered together friends and made close bonds with each group only for them to be taken by the Dark Lord. And then the player has to journey alone, aside from the Great Sage's accompaniment, to save them.
    • The first and second time it happens to the player, they lose their job, something they've spent what equates to countless hours improving at and the strongest tool they have to keep fighting. It's surprising that they didn't just become hopeless at having the only thing they have to combat evil with be stripped away from them. For all they know, their friends could be beyond saving, now that they're powerless to fight once again. Realistically, someone in this situation would probably be more likely to drop everything and go home.
  • The Miis' emotional reactions to having a friend fall when the Avenge skill activates, particularly kind, cautious, and airheaded Miis, who burst into Ocular Gushers. Meanwhile, cool, energetic, and stubborn Miis go into Unstoppable Rage and laid-back Miis appear to go into Tranquil Fury mode.
  • Miis at high relationship levels getting into quarrels with each other, especially if it's caused by one Mii choosing to put that other Mii in danger, such as the Human Cannonball skill or using them as a Human Shield.
  • When entering the Skyscraper for the first time, there is a cutscene where Dominic will ask the protagonist if they're willing to fight the Darker Lord even if they're the Great Sage that the protagonist has grown close to. Regardless of whether you answer yes or no, Dominic understands how they feel about the situation.
  • When the player says "Nah" to the Roving Photographer who just took a photo of the previous battle. The Mii they approach will just walk past them, leaving the photographer hanging their head in shame. Of course, this can be interpreted as a funny moment if the cameraman is cast as an annoying Scrappy or if he took a photo of you in a bad situation such as getting eaten instead of helping.
  • If you deny a quest (especially the "Abducted Friend" where a friend of the quest giver is abducted by a monster), The quest giver will burst into Ocular Gushers. Even worse if the player's Mii is also giving a frowny face.
  • A small one: in the Switch version, there are conversations between the teammates during certain story intervals. In the conversation after the Darker Lord's awakening, the protagonist clearly blames themselves for the Great Sage getting possessed.
