As is the case with all pages detailing Tearjerker Moments, Spoilers Off

  • Izuku's backstory. While initially keeping in with Izuku's in canon backstory of being quirkless and Katsuki beginning to bully him, in this universe he does end up getting a quirk - that he uses not only to injure Katsuki when he was trying to attack him and Ochako, not only hurting the other bullies, not only destroying the playground - but he also indirectly injures Inko as well. Izuku is clearly horrified with his actions, and hides himself in his room for days afterwards, and from that day on, vows never to pursue his dreams of being a hero.
    • After the incident, Izuku's life at school gets infinitely worse. Not only does he carry the stigma of having injured Katsuki and being regarded as a worthless Deku, now everyone believes that he's a villain in the making, and have no problem hurling insults at him and telling him that All Might will come to arrest him. This doesn't help Izuku's Heroic BSoD, and comes to believe that he has a villain's quirk.
    • This ends up directly affecting Ochako as well - as she is Izuku's Only Friend and sticks up for him, she ends up having quite a few bullies of her own, some of which leave her with a serious case of body issues that persist to the present day, which causes her to disregard any potential feelings for Itsuka with the belief of how she sees herself.
  • Chapter 3 has Ochako also struggling with the fact that, considering Izuku doesn't want to go to UA with her, the fact that the two best friends will have to drift apart, and she won't be able to look after him. It doesn't help that Izuku ends up in two altercations with the sludge villain that she's completely helpless to protect him, and she ends up lashing out at him for his recklessness. Thankfully, she apologizes afterwards, and the chapter is given a heartwarming ending with All Might helping Izuku out of his funk and encouraging him to apply for UA.
  • Nighteye's treatment of Itsuka is absolutely horrendous, even worse than how he treats Izuku. He disregards her without a moment's thought, goes to the beach to persuade All Might to give up on her and make Mirio his successor while Itsuka is standing right there, and makes it clear to her that he doesn't consider her worthy of All Might's power. The poor girl is obvious crestfallen by the time the pro hero leaves, and is struggling to put on an absolutely fake smile for Izuku afterwards.
  • Ochako ends up being accidentally alienated by Izuku during his training, due to All Might wanting to keep it a secret, and due to Poor Communication Kills, Ochako ends up completely alone. She's obviously desperate to hang out with her best friend and figure out what's wrong, but she's also immensely conflicted in pushing himself into her business. It's just one of the factors that contributes to her Insecure Love Interest attitude.
    • Once she finally confronts Izuku on the beach and nearly gets into an altercation with Itsuka, Ochako finally learns that Izuku is training for UA without her. She's obviously crushed knowing that her best friend was working towards his dream, one that she tried to convince him not to give up on for years, and doing it under her nose as well, before she tries to push her feelings down and be considerate.
      • It's even a tearjerker for Izuku, seeing how much he accidentally hurt his only friend, and can only try to ask her to stay as she's trying to gracefully leave.
  • The reveal that Teko, who was at first a stern but clearly caring grandfather for Itsuka, once pushed down her dream of being a hero. Hard. The dream sequence of him screaming at Itsuka not to be a hero while she cries in her mother's arms is uncomfortable, to say the least.
  • Izuku ends up suffering a severe beatdown at the hands of Hood during the USJ Invasion, pushed on the brink of death. That's not the sad part. The sad part is Ochako and Itsuka's reactions to stumbling along his beaten body, both of them clearly horrified and in tears as they fight Hood off and try to get Izuku to safety.
  • In the aftermath of the USJ, Hanta finds Setsuna hiding alone in the shadows of UA's barrier, clearly trying to put on her Sad Clown attitude and failing miserably. With gentle prodding, Setsuna eventually reveals that she has a massive case of borderline imposter syndrome - she was convinced that she was going to fail UA's recommendation tests due to Inasa, but when she passed, she believed that she had somehow impressed the judges. But when she saw Inasa, the guy she believes clearly passed, was nowhere in sight, she came to the conclusion that the only reason she passed was because he dropped out. The reason she pushes herself so hard is because she's desperately trying to convince herself that she earned her spot at UA, but her failures during the tests and the USJ have convinced her that she wasn't worthy to be at UA.
  • Mixed with Nightmare Fuel, but Izuku ends up having a nightmare of Hood crushing his head following their fight at the USJ, and later sees flashes of Hood during the fight with Mirio, making it clear that he was traumatized by the beating. There's also his reaction to the scars, clearly insecure about how they were blatantly on his face.
  • Nejire's past. Similar to Izuku and Ochako, Nejire grew up relatively isolated from her classmates, asides from Yuuyu. Rather than call her a villain, however, they were alienated from her extremely bubbly and curious personality, to the point of even warning new classmates to stay clear of her less she annoy them. Nejire, at some point, had attempted to calm her personality down, only for them to think that she was looking down on them, thus proving to Nejire that no matter what she did, there would be no way that she would be accepted.
    • One of Yuuyu's thoughts implied that some students attempted to take advantage of Nejire as well, only being stopped because Yuuyu was there to make sure nothing happened.
  • During their ride back to the USJ, Katsuki attempts to get under Izuku's skin by referring to him as the third wheel in his relationship with Ochako and Itsuka. While Izuku initially shrugs it off, it is later shown during his dream in Chapter 23 that the insult hit him a lot closer to home than he would like, having a dream of both Ochako and Itsuka angrily pushing him away for spending time with Nejire and spitefully telling him that they only hung out with him out of courtesy and that they much prefer each other's company than his.
  • The entire Sports Festival arc has Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka feeling awkward around each other due to their Unresolved Sexual Tension. Unlike other times, however, this begins taking their toll on each of them.
    • Itsuka and Ochako's argument in Chapter 28 is the first time in the story two members of the trio actually fight, and it's heartbreaking to show how both girls are Insecure Love Interests to both Izuku and themselves. They both argue about how they shouldn't get together with Izuku, with Itsuka not wanting to break Ochako's heart by taking Izuku from her, and Ochako considering herself too unattractive to be considered someone that Izuku would want. They both end up kissing by the end of the argument, but unlike last time, Itsuka makes it clear that she regrets her impulse and leaves the room, leaving Ochako behind to realize, a bit too late, that she has feelings for Itsuka as well as Izuku.
    • Izuku, meanwhile, is clearly in conflict of his own feelings and how awkward he is around both girls, being convinced that he was doing nothing but making things worse. When he talks to his mom about it, Izuku voices his fears about driving both girls away from him, and desperately wants things to go back to normal between them, only to be told by Inko that it may not be possible due to their growing feelings.
  • Momo's home situation is as heartbreaking as it is nightmarish. While her mother seems to be supportive, if a little ditzy, her father, on the other hand, is a ruthless businessman through and through. His summoning her during the lunch period to verbally tear her down and criticizing her for treating Shouto scornfully (even if he had been the one being rude in the first place) is uncomfortable to say the least, and seeing Momo, ordinarily a kindhearted but strong-headed young woman, meekly accept her father's abuse of her is hard to read.
    • Daikoku's threat of pulling Momo out of UA if she underperformed is, as revealed by Daikoku's thoughts in Chapter 32, an empty threat (for now), but Momo choosing to concede with Shouto in the last match is also this, as she is clearly thinking of her father's threat and still decides to stand by Shouto's decision regardless of how her father will react. It's clear the poor girl is scared out of her mind by her father.
  • Shouto's entire character in general, especially his relationship with Touya. Similar to Momo, it's clear that it's an abusive relationship - but unlike Momo, Shouto tries to ignore it in favour of believing vainly that he can win his brother's support by defying Endeavor. However, it's made clear at the beginning that, no matter what Shouto does, it will be responded with by scorn by his older brother.
    • His behavior in general, honestly. Unlike canon, Shouto is far more willing to do potentially horrible damage to his opponents, being unsympathetic to Izuku and Ochako falling several meters out of the sky, using his ice to burn Itsuka during their match, and refusing to consider restraining his opponents in favor of simply beating them down. However, it's made clear that he's trying to emulate Touya fairly early on, so this behavior is less Shouto undergoing a case of Adaptational Jerkass, and more Shouto trying to gain his brother's favor.
    • When he tells both Izuku and Nejire about his past, Nejire asks Shouto if he's alright. Shouto, for his part, is genuinely taken aback by someone asking him if he was okay.
    • While his interactions with Momo are cold, it's clear through his internal dialogue that he does sincerely miss his friendship with her, and is concerned over her treatment by the hands of Daikoku. There's even a brief moment where their animosity with each other dies down when they talk about their memories of childhood, only for Shouto to be reminded of his mother hurting him, and then shut her out again. Their match against Itsuka and Nejire has Shouto unintentionally press her buttons by telling her to stand back and let him do the work, making Momo feel worse about herself.
    • Shouto realizing that his memories have been repressed has him completely and utterly mentally collapse. He falls to the floor of the arena, forcing himself to remember the true memories of what happened that night - that Rei had injured Endeavor instead of him - and his will to fight is effectively extinguished. While he prepares to have a final clash with Itsuka in the same vein as his final clash with Izuku in canon, Shouto actually stops, and then gently gives up and concedes, making it clear that he's not prepared to use his flames.
  • Despite entirely deserving it, Aizawa has a moment where he has to realize that he basically fucked up everything in his class due to Izuku and Ochako's injuries. He has a moment where he reflects what he lost - his relationship with Shino, his friendship with the other Pussycats, and his pushing away Midnight has her angry with him and regretting getting him a teaching job in the first place.
  • It's revealed that Tensei, who was shown to be a Cool Big Bro to Tenya and a good Big Brother Mentor to Class 1A, was put in a coma by the Hero Killer that doctors are unsure he'll wake up from.
  • Kaina went through so much trouble to try and distance herself from the Urarakas to protect them from her bloody past, only to have it be rendered All for Nothing when Ochako tries to intern with her, resulting in Kanshi Shiryoku approving of it. And then she admits to Kaina with a sadistic and insane expression that she's going to manipulate Ochako to become her hitwoman after she graduates, all for her own sick amusement. The mental anguish Kaina goes through with that revelation, in addition to being unable to do anything to prevent it with her current situation, leaves her a wreck afterwards.
  • In a meeting with Daikoku Yaoyorozu, he shares with Jiro the story of how Mirio managed to bring down Humarise by defeating its leader, followed by stating how said leader died of his injuries afterwards. When he asks Roddy Soul/Skip who the leader's name was, the young man sullenly states it is Edward Soul. This means that Daikoku, who is in fact the real Flect Turn, not only got away scot free and forced Roddy into service under him, he even went and framed Roddy's father for his crimes.
