Tear Jerker / Marvel's Avengers

Go To

  • Kamala watching her best day ever turn into a horrifying massacre that eventually results in her heroes being declared outlaws. Watching her terrified, unable to do anything, and next to her helpless father as the Chimera collapses is bound to tug the heartstrings.
  • Bruce Banner having a Despair Event Horizon where he believes the Avengers are a danger and tells as much during a Senate hearing (thus effectively dooming them) is a real kick in the gut.
  • The knowledge the Avengers are blamed for A-Day is bad enough but watching them have their lives totally destroyed one by one is terrible. Bruce is living in the wreck of the Chimera, Tony is bankrupt in a trailer, Captain America is missing/presumed dead, and Thor has abandoned his hammer.
  • The sudden rapid collapse of Kamala's life is hard to watch as she goes from being a relatively carefree young girl to a fugitive being hunted through sewers in the space of just under an hour. It gets worse when she realizes she can't go home again either.
  • The state of Heroes Park where the Avengers are honored. Its overrun, abandoned, and going to be razed to build a new AIM facility.
  • While a Jerkass Woobie, the thug who attacks a random passer by gets some for the fact that his brother was apparently kidnapped, tortured, experimented on, and killed by AIM without his family ever knowing the truth. No wonder he's angry.
  • Doctor George Tarleton gets some Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds cred when you realize that he genuinely believes he's an Inhuman and he's suffering a Fate Worse than Death. You don't have to be a long term comics fan to realize that Monica is a False Friend when she insists on his injections.
    "I feel fine."
  • Doubles up with Nightmare Fuel when Kamala is chased by the Hulk and utterly terrified. By the end, she's reduced to a fetal position, praying he won't kill her. Kalama is not only scared to death but believes she's going to die at the hands of one of her heroes.
  • Kamala's reaction to seeing Golden Acres estate, which is run down and clearly a place that Tony is squatting in versus actually maintaining. It brings home that the Avengers are living like homeless vagabonds rather than the heroes they are.
  • Kamala's conversation with Dante where he reveals that he broke his leg escaping from an AIM prison but was forced to leave his mother behind.
  • Despite capturing Monica Rappacini, its very clear that Bruce hasn't wrapped his head around the fact his Old Flame is The Dragon. He keeps asking Natasha for some insight as to why she made a Face–Heel Turn only for her to give him Brutal Honesty.
"I don't think she ever had any real feelings for you, Bruce."
  • The Avengers' failed plan to expose Tarleton at Manhattan resulting in him almost shooting down the Chimera and nearly destroying Manhattan. Their Epic Fail leaves them more depressed and bitter than ever.
    • It gets worse when they see the video of Steve ordering Tarleton to leave, leading to their Darkest Hour. Bruce and Tony tear into each other while both Black Widow as well as Thor feel the entire thing is pointless.
  • The death of the three scientist in War For Wakanda. T’Challa and Shuri are devastated with T’Challa later sadly telling Okoye to notify the scientist next of kin.
